A few days ago, I noticed my local HEB was carrying this:

(They also have a non-spicy version, but I of course grabbed the spicy one.)
I think my impulse buy was in part inspired by Panhead John and 58limited 's recent trip lol.
It's "grocery store" sausage so I wasn't expecting much, but I did one of the links in the air fryer (~6 minutes at 385 F) and it was surprisingly good! The casing has a wonderful snap that many (most?) grocery store sausages just do not have. I loved that. It's a pork sausage, clearly by taste....nothing weird, unusual, or outlandish there....just good pork. It does have a mild smoke flavor, which is artificial as it states on the package, but it is good and in the background. Is there a cajun or creole flavor to it? There is, slightly, but the heat level is excellent. It's not in the background, but it isn't overwhelming either....went perfectly with the pork.
I have certainly had worse sausages for $4.98 (which is about $1.66 a link!). I think I am going to pick up another pack today.
