A few weeks ago Mosca described using a propane torch to char and cook hot dogs. I decided to give it a try.

Of course, as is my style, I needed to do this slightly unconventional method unconventionally. (I forgot that the green propane cylinders, unlike the yellow ones, can't "fire" when upside down, so I ended up having to hold the hot dogs over them with tongs lol!)
The method works! In about 3-4 minutes I had both dogs significantly charred. Not as fast as a microwave, but certainly faster than lighting up charcoal! The char isn't as "bold" as what you get over direct flame charcoal, but for a quick lunch it is fine.) And even doing this with the hot dogs right out of the fridge was sufficient to warm them up, although letting them warm up closer to room temp would be better.

(Also, if you've never tried toasting buns in an air fryer, it is a game changer. In my 6-qt, 2 mins at 390, no pre-heat, and they are perfect.)
