Sam's Club Hot Dog Offerings - Sam's and Nathan's apparently part ways... :(

I am kinda peeved. The ONLY hot dogs I buy are Nathan's, as that is what my wife likes. I've been buying them in big 24 packs at Sam's for many years. DECADES. I've been a Sam's Club member for 35+ years!

This week, I found that all Sam's Club now offers is Ballpark (which we don't really like), or a variety of "Member's Mark" hot dog offerings (1/4 pound, bun length, standard, etc). That was IT.

I resorted to NOT buying hot dogs, buns, chips OR cookies for the college students I fed yesterday at Sam's Club, and instead went to the grocery store and bought 4 packs of bun-length Nathan's and everything else I needed.

Has anyone tried these Member's Mark hot dogs? Are they any good? I was hesitant to try a huge pack of hot dogs of unknown prevenance...

Haven't tried them, interesting to hear about them. Nathan's is gone either to price negotiations, streamlining supply chain, promoting store brands ( more profitable ) or a combination of this. I think you are going to see a lot more of this. Been noticing more Kirkland brands at Costco.

It's not just the big box stores. HEB is going more and more for their house brands. For example, they don't carry King Arther flour anymore, at least not at the one I shop at.

    Well doesn't that just suck.

Ughhh I would always get Nathan’s from Sam’s too. The members mark ones are fine but are too big in my opinion.

We've tried the Members Mark dogs and we thought they were good.

We get Nathans at Walmart and a lot of the time, I've not seen a lot of price diff between Sams and Walmart.

We’ve had the Member’s Mark hot dogs a couple times. I don’t care for hot dogs most of the time, but I liked the Member’s Mark ones. I told SWMBO that they would probably be added to the summer rotation.

Good to know. I may try them at some point.

While I would be mad about losing Nathan’s too for Ballpark and Member’s Mark, online says they have Vienna Beef.

It might be a Chicago thing but that would be a more than acceptable alternative if available locally Jim.

Sadly, for me that link pulls up JUST Ballpark and Member's Mark hot dogs. It must be a local thing for you in Chicago-land.

Vienna Beef dogs? At Sam’s club?

(Twirling my cape and racing down the bat pool!)

          Never mind….. sigh.

A good way to taste test whether you'll like the Member's Mark hot dogs without having to buy a huge package would be to buy one of their hot dog combos from their food court.

I am not sure they are the same. Maybe they are, but I'm not a fan if they are. Been many years since I tried one though.

They serve Members Mark Beef Franks at the food court.

I’ll get some Members mark the next time we go to Sam’s. I really like most of the Members mark things we’ve tried.

I do too, but Nathan's has a unique spice flavor that I don't get in the other brands, and if SWMBO wants Nathan's.... well, now I gotta go to Walmart to get them for $5 per 8-pack. I price shopped Kroger and Publix were higher.

Costco and their $1.50 dog never did me dirty like this......

Hey, you got to work 'prevenance' into a sentence, that's pretty cool.

Yeah, all I'm seeing online from my store is Member's Mark, Ballpark, and Bar S. Which, as far as I'm concerned is "dunno, acceptable, and EF NO".

Tried something from Bar S once…..once was enough. Probably the worst processed meat products out there.

My usual hot dog is the Nathan's jumbo restaurant style beef frank. I like natural casings but the ones from Nathan's are to skinny.

If Vienna were available where I live, that is all I would buy.

Oh no! First it was Wright's thick sliced bacon and now it's Nathan's dogs. Sam's Club sure isn't what it was.

I may have to revisit my lapsed Costco membership at some point. The problem is - Costco is 7-8 miles away, and insanely crowded no matter when I go, and Sam's is 1.5 miles away, and the one on this end of town is pretty quick and easy to get through, especially if I use their Scan-and-Go app to checkout on my phone...

FYI my Sam's Club still carries Wright's, but just the hickory smoked - which was what I usually went for anyway. They dropped the cherry and apple wood smoked versions.

But they do have numerous Member's Mark bacon offerings now, including one that looks a lot like Wright's, but cheaper...

We didn't renew our membership either a few years ago. Been a business member since the 80's and went in there one day about 930 and the lady said I cannot come in early. I said I am a business card holder. She said they stopped that and only Prime members can come in early now. So for their trying to get an upgraded membership they lost a forty year customer.

fzxdoc Kathryn look at these two bacon options at Sam's:

Click image for larger version Name:	0007962100348_A.jpg Views:	0 Size:	13.9 KB ID:	1721532 Click image for larger version Name:	0019396842970_A.jpg Views:	0 Size:	14.1 KB ID:	1721533

They look SUSPICIOUSLY similar! In fact, you can tell it is the exact same freaking slab of bacon, and someone has doctored the picture to put the Members Mark label over it! And took the red stripes off the zip lock.

I wonder if this means Wright's is making this particular bacon?

The 4# pack of Wright's is currently $21ish, and the 4# pack of Member's Mark is $17ish. I would be curious to cook and taste test them side by side...
