    Air Frying Hot Dogs

Since last August I've been cooking for teachers at my school once a month for pitch-ins. Usually on Fridays. It's a big hit and I think we'll do it again next year.

Anyway, we decided that the last cook in May will be hot dogs. I think I've decided to air fry the hot dogs tomorrow night in my air fryer oven. I like the looks of what I see online of people using air fryers to cook hot dogs. I'm planning to air fry in my oven, then put the hot dogs in baggies and use SV to warm them up at work.

I'm posting this to see if there is any last minute advice from The Pit. (Besides the guys from Chicago telling me not to put ketchup on them...)

No advice on the hot dogs as I don’t air fry (sounds solid), but very cool cooking for teachers! Very Solid, keep doing you!

No AF here either, but very nice of you to do this.

My son air fries everything. I don’t know if he’s done a hot dog, but I’m sure he has.

and like the others have said, first your cook for the kids last week and the cooks for the teachers once a month, that’s how an amazing culture is built! I hope you enjoy your summer vacation that’s hopefully starting soon!

Well, my notes are not to be trusted really, but I air fry mine in my Ninja 10 in 1. "air fry on rack 3 in basket 365 for 11 minutes". Tasty. I have actually gotten to where after that, I'll build the hotdog in the bun, add the chili straight out of the can (usually wolf or Hormel) and some cold cheese and air fry it all again until it all looks nice and warm. Really good, fun, and easy.

Do the AF thing to your satisfaction, but just nuke 'em at 50% power for 30 - 45 seconds (more or less, depending) to warm them up. I do many, many lunches with this method.

Air frying is a legit way to do dogs if you wanna skip the grill. They get some nice color, which equals flavor!

One of the beautiful things about hot dogs is that every single way to do them is good. The only question I have is scale: how many people, how many hot dogs? If it’s 50-100, do you have enough SV capacity? At that point I’d be tapped out on how much I could reheat, and I’d go with a big pot and make dirty water dogs. Otherwise, what you’re doing is fine.

Good points! The "air fryer" I'm using is the function on our kitchen oven. I'm thinking I can air fry the hot dogs thirty at a time. Two batches. And I will double check tonight, but I think if I use a 2 gallon storage bag, I can get 60 hot dogs in a standard SV tank. If not, I have a very large plastic container I bought at Walmart for $6 last fall, and it will hold them. Thanks for making me think it through!

You’re good to go then! With a SV container that size, make sure you bring some foil to cover it, or it won’t get up to temp.

This is a good thing that you do!
