The Griddle King Nails the Hotdog

Watch this. The water pan, the steaming. Would never have thought of this. It's on the to do. I'll be breaking out the griddle insert this week.

I like that water pan and steaming! I have a ceramic top griddle, but those pans can go on any heat source. I will also say, though, that charred over coals is my preferred hod dog. The griddle works, but I’ll take mine over coals every time.

When I’m cooking for a crowd I steam every time. It’s so fast. When it’s just a package of dogs for the fam and a few guests, griddle only. I’m a huge fan of hotdogs over charcoal, but unless I have other plans for said charcoal it seems like a waste for just a few mins of cooking.

And that is why a gasser is always handy, as a way to justify MCS… why fret about $3 worth of charcoal? For $300 you can waste 50¢ worth of propane instead!

That's why I like my Smokey Joe for dogs, doesn't use much charcoal.

as Lynn noted, I either use the smoky Joe, or I just have sides that can be done on the kettle as well, to maximize charcoal use.

I like the water pan, no dog should be served without a hot moist bun.

                  What?

I can see the merit of that if you're cooking a ton of hot dogs to feed a crowd.
The preheat in the water especially. Almost like a reverse sear. Bring 'em up to temp, then give them a little char to end. We really don't eat many hot dogs anymore, and really nothing beats cooking them over charcoal imo, so mine mostly get done on the smokey joe.

Oh, and ketchup on a hot dog is a violation!!
Not on par with beans in chili, but a violation nonetheless..

I’m thinking Panhead John would love to riff off of this now that he is selling his Bronco. Can you do this with shrimp 🍤 and pasta 🍝 🔥🔥🐿️

I am not sure how to run the hotdogs through the coffee maker, if I knew, I would brew a pot of Hot Dogs myself.
