Portland Burger Week began yesterday and I sampled 2 offerings.

It started with a bang! XLB is a well-regarded Chinese dumpling restaurant.

What It's Called: Burger Bao

What's On It: a beef & pork patty with caramelized onions and American cheese, wrapped in our bao dough, pan-fried then served with our house-made burger sauce.

The verdict: Amazing burger. Score: 10/10

What It's Called: The Robbie

What's On It: Porkbelly, mole rojo, sweet potato crisps, brioche bun, grilled onions, crema fresca

The verdict: Very good sandwich for $8. Score: 8/10

What It's Called: Some Like It Hot

What's On It: Smash patty, Tilamook pepper-jack cheese, sautéed mushrooms & Serrano peppers, pickled red onions, chipotle mayo, on a brioche bun

The verdict: Excellent burger. Score: 9/10
The funny thing is I went with 3 other people and they all thought it was great some even had it above the Burger Bao. But my neighbor went later that day and gave it a 6/10, saying it was bland. He said his daughter agreed with his assessment.

What's On It: Onions, Lo’s Sauce, Smash Patty, fried queso Oaxaca, salsa roja, and Carnitas from Quesabrosa

The verdict: Greasy, sloppy, and tasty. Score: 7/10

I wouldn’t try the "Burger Bao" based on their pic, but yours looks amazing. "Some Like It Hot" is the kind of burger I love. I’d probably be eating that a couple times a month.

What It's Called: HOT & COOL BURGER #1

What's On It: Smashed burger, dunked in our hot sauce, with ranch dressing, pickled chilies, dill pickles & shredded iceberg

The verdict: Their Burger was weak last year, but they nailed it this year. Score: 9/10

What's On It: Carnitas burger patty slow cooked to perfection. On a toasted bun with chipotle crema spread, crunchy avocado slaw top with Mexican blend cheese and Pico de Gallo
