So a year or 20 ago, I had some fruit cake that I’ve been trying to find a recipe for. I was too young and foolish to get the recipe, assuming they would have even shared it. I think they said it took a month to make but it was not the friendship cake that google wants me to make. It was full of fruit with big chucks not ground up. I’m thinking of trying christmas cake or caribbean fruit cake. Anyone know of a different type out there?

Here is a recipe from 1912 which appeared in the Saturday Evening Post.
I would love to say that this is a great recipe but in my extended family fruit cakes were always given as Christmas present solely to be regifted to another family member the following Christmas. So in the end I guess they were all fermented

Grilla OG Pellet Cooker 🦍
Grand Prize Weiner: Blaze 3 Burner LP Grill 🙂
I did a search on "Drunken Fruit Cake" and came up with this one. Sounds kinda like what you are looking for, and of course, you can tweak it with the chunky fruit you want to use.
This Drunken Fruit Cake recipe is so delicious and full of flavor. It’s one of the many great recipes shared by home cooks on BakeSpace.com, the world’s sweetest recipe swap community.

Similar to what Carolyn just posted, here's something that might also be close: https://homemadehome.com/brandied-fruit-cake/
(I've never made it or had it ... and likely never will ... but perhaps the recipe contains some useful hints for you).

Thanks for the suggestions. From what I had found before, I was looking at using something like this for the fruit https://fifthseasongardening.com/tut...magical-elixir, and basing the cake on https://www.alicaspepperpot.com/blac...ed-fruit-cake/ or https://www.glutenfreealchemist.com/...t-cake-recipe/. I will have to play with the liquor, rum stands out in my memory but that just could be years of Captain Morgan and Mount Gay. Brandy and Whiskey seem to be prevalent in recipes as well. I have to adapt for gluten free now but the original was not. Lots of things to try…

I looked through a couple of my old cookbooks, but there wasn't anything in them that was even close to what you are looking for. Sounds like you want a little cake with your booze. 🤪 😆
Collin Street Bakery in Texas is famous for their fruitcakes. They have a little recipe with different liquor profiles that you might find helpful. Gives some information on what each type liquor does for the fruitcake.
"Boozy" is also a good search term to use.🥃

Trying to one up that one. This be fruit cake and gluten free, everyone will run at the mere mention of it! Half the fun is watching that one cake make the round every year though. I saw an article saying one family had a 130 yr old fruit cake, imagine how many times that one has changed hands!

You stole my thunder HawkerXP. I also believe there is one, and only one fruit cake. I got it one Christmas and gifted it anonymously the next year. I got the damned thing back twice in the three years after that. So much for trying to protect my identity. I do believe it's well fermented by now.
