I think the limited distribution area is to blame. I'm shocked that Blue Plate hasn't gotten a single vote.

MW users don't need to be shot, they'll disappear from some unknown complications related to MW ingredients, or get abducted by the extraterrestrials behind the concoction. Ever read 'To Serve Man'?

Fer me, Duke's is my lifelong fave, comfort food flavour of mayo.
I'll totally accept Hellman's, as it was 2nd most prevalent in my childhood.
Alla that bein said, I got nuthin against MW, it jus ain't mayo, not at all Universally Interchangeable.
They both have their applications, but are apples vs oranges.
Think baseball bat vs golf club vs tennis racket; ya can hit a ball with all of em, but...
Much of life, to me, is about makin an informed selection...
Experience, an wisdom is what we accrue, in th cumulative process of makin uninformed decisions...

CaptainMike sounds safer than some of my youthful pursuits, like makin Pringles can cig lighter fluid tennis ball cannons. Or tater guns.
Er, I meant seein some folks do such.
See how a pattern forms, an normally good kids end up in Speckled Forkses? Tragic, really... A senseless waste.

All right. I can’t judge Duke’s. Cause I’ve never seen or heard of it over here in NY.
So can not judge it to Hellman’s.
If someone who has access to it and wants to send me some to try. I would be more than willing to make a comparison and post my thoughts.

Yep! I learned. The wife was from Cooperstown, I'm just an ole Louisiana Mississippi guy. I had to learn quick.

FireMan, more like right coast. According to their website, I can get it at the Walmart Supercenter 32 miles away from me (where my son worked at one time), but not at the WalMart 11 miles away.

My Dad worked for Best Foods for 45 years so Hellman’s was what was in our home growing up. But then I discovered Dukes and the clouds parted and the harps began to play and unicorns began galloping shooting rainbows through their noses....and well I kinda like it !!!!

Mayo for sure!!!!! I just switched over to Mayo after our Daughter introduced me to Sir Kensington's Mayo. I will need to try the Duke's brand too. My Wife still likes Miracle Whip but I LOVE HER anyway!!

Any true mayo is fine by me but Miracle Whip is not allowed in our house. I tried it once and thought it tasted like a pickle gone bad.

Interesting. I had never learned the history of MW. As I despise it, it is still good to know your enemy. I never knew it was a Kraft blend of real mayo, and cheap salad dressing, to make the product cheaper to make and sell.

If you have a stick blender, some fresh eggs, and two minutes free, you need to try this once.

Can’t argue with that. As cooks we need to create our own whenever possible, it really is the best way !!!

Grew up on the ole Grandmaw's mayo. It's been a never ending trek to find something the same.

I wish there was an "it’s complicated" option! Grew up in VA with both Hellman’s and MW in the house, never saw Dukes for sale. Mostly used MW on sandwiches and still like it. But I would never make tuna salad or chicken salad with MW, gotta be mayo. Moved to NC and found Dukes and "the skies parted" as it did for others, even considering any other mayo is heresy nowadays. Sandwich places around here will actually advertise if they use Dukes. My best friend in San Diego always takes 3-4 jars of it back with him after he visits. I just can’t figure out why it was never around in VA... it’s like 7-11’s, they’re EVERYWHERE in VA but cross the state line into NC and they’re like unicorns. Weird.

You know, this is why I love this place. A simple question has led to recipes, deep discussion about condiments and even a link to the history of Miracle Whip. This site truly does rock.

And yes, I've had a few tonight.

Seriously? Out of 30 votes in the poll (when I voted) I'm the only vote for home made? I am so very, very disappointed in you people. <shakes head sadly>

I used to hate mayo. All of it. Probably because my Pop was a Miracle Whip guy and my mom bought whatever store brand goop said "mayonnaise" on the label. And both of those things are vile, disgusting, nasty, icky, revolting, vomitous, repulsive, distasteful things. I've gotten better since I started making my own, to the point that Best Foods is almost, but not quite, not disgusting. Mayo now has it's place, I've made my peace.

But all the store bought stuff still sucks on roller-skates.

Dukes is now being carried by Giant Eagle grocery here in OHIO. At least in the Cleveland area. First tried it after seeing it in Walmart. Won’t use anything else now. Must have been a southern boy in previous life.

I remember visiting my grandmother as a child and being appalled by the Miracle Whip that was in fridge. I'll take Best Foods or homemade please.

Perhaps th onliest thing skeerier than Miracle Whip, unexpected, would be MW combined with Wonder Bread!!!

Well that's exactly what we had at Grandma's plus Oscar Mayer bologna. It was quite an eye opener. Whole wheat only and salami at home. To tell you truth I kind of liked the Wonder Bread because it was practically dessert, and I found the factory meat intriguing as well. But as a grown up I reverted to what my mom taught me. Whole wheat bread, real meats, and Best Foods Mayo.

Both my grammas slathered on the butter, one on her fresh baked bread, the other on fresh buns from the bakery. Until I was 14 I don't remember ever having anything but butter on sandwiches. First time I remember having MW was when I went pheasant hunting with my dad. White bread, bologna, and MW. sitting in a South Dakota corn field. It was the best sandwich I had ever had!
