Removing wishbone prior to cooking Turkey

    Hello all,
I just wanted to share my Turkey carving experience this year. All I can say is WOW. I am fortunate enough to have a brother in law that is a chef and he showed me how to remove the wishbone prior to cooking the turkey. And the result of that was the ability to easily remove the breast in its entirety with ease. I also shared this with several friends that I knew were cooking and they all thanked me profusely for the tip.
I'm not sure of the rules here for posting other URL's but a quick google search will yield YouTube videos and articles discussing the advantages of doing so.

Here is a paragraph from one of the articles: "What makes carving difficult is the wishbone, and not just because everyone fights to pull it apart at the dinner table. It’s an engineering problem. The y-shaped bone, which runs along the top of a turkey’s chest, actually gets in the way of a clean cut anytime you try to slice breast meat from a bird. The result: ragged strips and crumbs, instead of steaming slices"

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.
    Mike

Welcome to The Pit mike395! First of all, thank for joining up with us. Second, thanks for sharing this tip, and third, thanks for asking about URLs. We'd love you to post a URL or two to illustrate your tip. There's no restrictions on that sort of thing as long as the link is relevant, not spam or shady, and there's no profanity, pornography, racism, etc that would violate Pit guidelines.

On that note (we usually reserve this "welcome package" for introductions in the Introduce Yourself channel--which I'd encourage you to visit and tell us about yourself) our homework assignment includes a link to the Pit guidelines, so we all know what boundaries we should stay in to keep The Pit friendly and beneficial fro all.

          So..

Since this is your first post, please check out our homework assignment post for new members, it contains a few how-tos and please-dos. This will help you learn your way around so you can get the best experience from our forum.

Also, it's very important that you:
          1. Give us an email address you actually use. You can set or change your email on file with us by clicking your name in the upper-right, then User Settings, then the Notifications tab.
          2. Add the domain AmazingRibs.com to your email safe list. We NEVER spam! This is important to receive notices about your account, such as if you’re up for renewal or are ever drawn as our monthly Gold Medal Giveaway winner (we’d hate to have to pick another person because you don’t answer us)!

Hope to hear & see more from you!

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. I've actually been on the forum for some time but I am more of a researcher than a poster. But when I come across a useful tidbit that isn't covered, (which is rare) I'll be sure to post. As for the URL's here is one for an easy reference.
