    Steel Cut Oats

I made a bunch for breakfast this week. Toasted the oats for extra flavor and cooked down with milk, water, and a little salt for about 35 minutes.

    What are your favorite toppings?

Steel cut oats used to be my go to breakfast. I always added fresh berries and a drizzle of honey, and at times chopped almonds.

In fact, my daughter (23yo) text me this week asking if I remembered having her watch my oatmeal cook in the microwave when she was younger while I got everything else ready for the school day. That was THE breakfast for me.

Never toasted them like you mention. I bet that provides some additional level of flavor!

I like them cold with either figs or peaches from the farm and honey from the apiary. Maybe some toasted salted pecans tossed on top.

Most of the time I do my oatmeal plain. Now and then I’ll toss in some fruit or drizzle little organic maple syrup…or make a smoothie to go with it!

I like to add about a tsp of butter in the pot and toast them up really well. Adds a great nutty flavor to them, then add milk and make sure there's no boil/foaming over. Any kind of fruit will do, along with some walnuts and at times raisins and or dried cranberries.

                  Milk and brown sugar.
Toast the oatmeal first. That sounds very interesting. Cut oats rather than rolled?

Brown sugar is my go to. Although raisins (rehydrated) are good too.

                  What happened to waffles STEbbq?

I have been making waffles but mainly repeating old favorites so haven’t posted any new ones for a bit. We might give steel cut oats some work for a while though.

I'm going to try toasting them! I prefer walnuts and cognac-soaked golden raisins for toppings with a splash of whole milk. Here lately I've been enjoying overnight oats with milk, honey and the two mentioned above or fresh fruit with pecans.

Steel cut topped with a little buttermilk and nuts. Fresh blueberries if available. Sometimes just butter.

Mr. Boring here. Just a little salt and water only. I'm not normally good with tasting notes but do appreciate the 'nuttiness' of plain steel cut oats.

I'm not sure if I'm weird or nobody is owning up. Butter and sugar. Thank you
