    Salt Rising Bread

Have anybody here ever enjoyed salt rising bread? If so does anybody know how to make it. I can't find it in Ohio. I know of a few bakeries back in western NY that still make it but it costs an arm and a leg to ship it out.

I had never heard of it and had to look it up. Google 'salt rising bread' for recipes. Here's one.

Sounds interesting--and weird. Here's a Wiki article about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt-rising_bread

I'm surprised that it works, but it obviously does. I'm gonna give it a try soon, if I can find a 100°F spot for it to sit in. The KA recipe proved by ComfortablyNumb should be a great place to start.

      Is it strongly flavored?

As an un-toasted bread I would say it smell like a combination between a stinky cheese and feet.

        😂

I wouldn't say it is strong flavored but there is somewhat of a funk like sourdough bread has.

In my opinion salt rising bread is a part of the best breakfast there is

        Home made corned beef hash
        Over easy eggs
        Lightly buttered salt rising toast

Oh Hell. I think I'll just need to pay shipping rates. That's way beyond my skill level.

Seriously, it's easier to make bread and starters than you maybe think. I'm in the process of trying a 60 W trouble light in the oven to see if I can get to around 100°F--the oven light itself wasn't adequate. I let you know if it works out.
