I’m on probation- "No more trips to the butcher!"

Mrs JCBBQ is grumpy bc there isn’t enough room in our 3 freezers (1 dedicated and 2 fridge freezers) for her to store all her crap...erm, stuff. In a magnanimous jesture (to prove her wrong 😃) I took stock of the situation. Ok, she might have a point. Here’s what I found:

    A whole tri tip
    1 whole beef filet
    1/2 a porchetta
2 steaks I cut from the Xmas prime rib
    8 NY strip steaks
    2 bags of chicken thighs
    An entire frozen chicken
    Bag cooked boneless pork spareribs
3 big bags of cooked bbq beef of various cuts.

😬 Oops. I see a lot of steak and tacos in there near future.

Nuttin’ wring w that! I got started last night.

Sounds like a delightful problem to have. I too have a turkey and some steaks in the freezer Mrs Huskee is regularly reminding me of, including an A5 Kobe one... I'm more the type that thinks 'those are for emergencies, they need to stay there, safe & sound.' Then I go to the store to get fresh dinner stuff, repeat.

I do the same thing. Keep stuff in the freezer because i dont want to rush cooking it or dont have time to thaw etc. especially this time of year when the weather sux and im barely firing up fhe grill.

Thankfully when i aquiesced to the ridiculously expensive new fridge freezer she wanted the deal was the old one goes in the mud room and its completely off limits for any purchases not made by me 😁

Glad it is a solvable problem. With the temps expected in NJ tonight you can just sit her stuff outside and make some more space for your stuff. Then buy her a new freezer for your anniversary, her birthday, or MLK day. Whichever is closest.

              It's a regular "deep-freeze" out there today!

I am on meat probation most of the time. I know what you are dealing with, however at my house my wife asked me to cook prime rib For a get together for her women’s group meeting in February. I informed her that meat shopping is in order.

BTW, I SV those steaks and did something for the sear I'd never done before. I stuck the cast iron pan in the oven at 500 degrees before putting it on the range. MUCH much better. Will do that again for sure!

Sometimes I do the opposite when making cornbread. It's more convenient to preheat the cast iron skillet on the cooktop than in the oven. Actually, if the truth be told, I often forget to put in the oven while pre-heating. So, the stove provides a quick recovery.

Sounds like the Jersey Bear needs to get another deep freeze. or you can move to MN where you can just store the stuff outside. (It was -27 F when I got out on the lake this morning to go fishing.)

This is my cook through the freezer season. All the stuff that's piled up finds its way through the instant pot, the sous vide, the oven or the grill. Wife's stuff just seems to pile. My stuff, I plow through eventually. But I gotta get it cleared out if I want to get a butchered half or whole hog.

I've got 3 refrigerators with freezers plus a deep freeze. I vacuum sealed left overs from my son's wedding rehearsal dinner and found that I could barely close the lid of the chest deep freeze, so its time to eat all the vacuum sealed leftovers and cook the piled up meat for sure!

Sadly I got a new grill yesterday that I want to break in, but I am not standing outside by a gas grill in freezing weather with the high winds I see outside my office window right now. I would never survive up there with Spinaker .

Haha. Yeah, it warmed up. Was below freezing when I came out to the home office. I ended up moving the grill out back, hooking up a spare propane tank, and burned it in. While it was still hot I reheated some leftover pizza for lunch, Nice crisp crust with "grill marks" on the bottom, haha.

Like Potkettleblack, I use January and February for my "see what's in the back of the freezers and use it" months. I have so much meat in there waiting for a grill or smoker to fire up and sing its siren song.

Plus, since I often cook in quantity because the kids always want me to bring them home cooked frozen food (like Malcolm Reed's Smoked Chuck Roast Chili or the large containers of a batch French Onion Soup that I just made) whenever we visit, there's a "take this to the kids" shelf in one of the freezers that's always full, waiting for the next visit.

Even so, I love my visits to the butcher shop which is in a town about an hour away from me. Shoehorning in another couple of goodies (bavette steak, for example) while I cook up a couple of other scored prizes that week is a routine whenever I go uptown to shop.

My husband is happy as long as I keep the small area allocated for ice cream intact.

And then you have to keep using it to justify it to SWMBO.
