Normally I'd glance over something like this but I thought this one might be worth a try. He's a Doctor so he's smart right? Recipe used many years in the family. Lives close to Santa Maria (home of tri tip) and Santa Ynes is basically back-country ranchers that know how to cook meat.
I'll try it someday but have too much other meat on hand right now. Just passing along the info...
Teriyaki/soy/OJ sounds like a perfect marinade. I love the whole Santa Maria "movement". It reminds me of Central Texas bbq. It’s regional cooking at its best !!!!!
Equipment:
Brinkman Gas/Charcoal duo with offset firebox
Pit Barrel Cooker
Maverick Remote Temperature Gizmo with Pit and meat probes
Thermopen Instant thermo
This sounds tasty. I've been to plenty of Santa Maria BBQs and can't remember a marinated tri-tip in the lot, but that's not going to stop me from trying this!
Hmm just so happens I have SRF tri tip in the freezer right now
Do it man!
Living in Tri-Tip country the local Costco has tons of it: Prime, Choice, whole, trimmed, steaks, marinated, dry rubbed, single or multi-packs etc. Costco also sells the SM wood grills here. Most people cook it over red oak with 'Suzy Q' seasoning, and I always thought the marinated version was pretty lame - so this recipe came as a surprise.
