    Back to Basics

Last weekend I spent three nights camping solo in the Sangre de Cristo mtns of southern Colorado. I lucked-out and had beautiful weather for hiking. I brought along an old grill from a Smoky Joe and a small bag of Kingsford so... it was back to basics. Propped up the grill on some rocks in a regulation Forest Service fire ring and put on a bone-in ribeye then added a few parboiled spuds . I was up high (about 9800 ft) and getting a really hot fire was difficult in the thin air but the cook seemed to come out fine. Or maybe I was just hungry after the hiking...

I love getting back to basics. I cook with nothing or next to nothing often.

When I'm feeling fancy I take along this pocket grill

Fire Art - that depends on what's in the rub.

Not sure what happened with the pic. Operator error no doubt. As for the rub, it was just S & P.

Thanks to your thread I'm definitely going to bust out my Grilliput next month while I'm staying in the redwoods. Maybe a trip tip or something.
