    Trader Joe's Tri-Tip

    Hey everyone,

Quick question -- SWMBO noticed Trader Joe's by us is carrying Tri-tip. As its extremely difficult to find it around Pittsburgh, i'm intrigued about picking some up. Has anybody cooked any of these?

No TJ's near me, but my first question would be what grade is the meat. It would have to be at least choice for me to try it.

          Is it pre-marinated?

I don't always cook Tri-Tip but when I do I always ask myself why I don't cook it more often

Tri-tip is amazing. Lots of flavor in that cut!

I picked one up this past week from TJ's. It was awesome. Really good. Thats the only place I can find them here in Minnesota. So i guess I really have nothing to compare it too.

I've never bought a tri-tip from Trader Joe''s. However I do buy a case of 2 buck chuck Merlot there from time to time. It's a good very inexpensive wine to have with lunch.👍

I've bought many preseasoned tri-tips that come in a cryovac package. I leave them in the cryovac package and Sous Vide them for 4 to 12 hours and then take them out of the package, blot it dry, add beef love and some rub, and then sear them over my charcoal starter. They come our great.

I have only gotten the tri-tip from TJ once, and it actually convinced me to stop buying meat from TJ. Small and tough, and not that flavorful. Could have been my cook, but I was disappointed. However, I think it was grass-fed, and I generally am not thrilled with grass-fed beef.

Yeah, grass-fed takes some special cooking because it's leaner.
