I'm sure some of you are familiar with this site, but I'm guessing there are others who are not. Anyway, this is a great site for figuring out what cut of meat you want to smoke, and how to make sure you get what you want. It lists the cuts of beef and their NAMP/IMPS number. Using the number when ordering from your butcher should assure that you get what you want since many cuts have more than one name, and others have similar names.
On the page linked above there is a column listing the cuts on the right side. If you click on "short ribs", you are taken to a page with more info on that cut, the various cuts that come under that name, and photos to show you what to look for:
I hope some find this useful.
