I bought a 14 lb packer a couple weeks ago because it was on sale. It's been in the freezer since then. How long can I keep it frozen before it starts losing quality at the cook? It's in there in the cryovac package only.

I remember as a kid that we had a big chest freezer stocked full of meats and leftovers (there were 4 kids so stockpiles were necessary) and one year for Thanksgiving we had a turkey that had been frozen for three years. Maybe it was the luck of the draw, maybe it was mom's way with food but t was delicious and nobody died.

I also keep meat in the freezer for close to a year, mainly venison. Never goes bad. I think the longest a have kept a cryovac brisket is probably two months, only because I cook a lot of brisket and when I find what I want I buy it and freeze it ( usually have two or three in the freezer ) but when you cook about four a month they don't stay in there long.
