NPR Article on Current Beef Prices

NPR has a really good article today on what is going on with beef prices and how businesses and consumers are reacting: https://www.npr.org/2025/09/18/nx-s1...cord-high-cost

The graphs and data in the article are quite interesting. The ending of the article is a little depressing.....the owner of the County Line chain of BBQ places (popular in Texas) is having to consider simply not serving brisket until the price comes down. (And the remark about not caving into the trend of serving smaller portions was....well, ouch.)

Have not seen any Briskie, let alone reasonable priced at Krogers or Costco lately. Surprising, Costco almost always has some currently $4.49 lb.

I think I saw $5 something for prime the other day for brisket.

Wolly World had a FULL bin of choice at $4.46....week later ALL Select in that same bin for the same price. I splurged on a Prime for my coworkers.

Were that I had a boss like you, Jerod. I wouldn't be retired right now if it was the case!

And I thought beef was the highest when the cow jumped over the moon.

Then wont hurt the olive oil or the wine.

This explains beef is not in our budget.

Beef is now a treat in our house. It used to be that a cheap chuckie was a standard meal, but now there is no such thing as "cheap" beef. But I am learning a bunch of new ways to make chicken, so there's that.

I remember my Pop running Prime bone-in center cut chuck steaks for .99 cents a pound...Sure did spend alot of time on the band saw..Pretty sure those days are long gone..

With beef prices where they are this is probably a good idea...

Jerod Broussard when I am in BF’s car and toss my handbag in the passenger seat, I have to set the seatbelt. Sometimes if I toss my phone on the seat, I have to set the seatbelt.

I was on the farm awhile back. Guys were loading fats, going to market. One of the steers went nuts, started scrabbling around on the concrete, got his hoof caught between the concrete and lower pipe rail, broke his lower leg on the fence. Brother gave hired man the steer, which got shot and slaughtered later, using front end loader to hike him up for slaughtering. Costs continue, despite high prices.
