    Beef heart

Looking for a good grill recipe for beef heart. Thanks

Back in the old days it made excellent jerky. I have no idea how to grill it.

The recommended grilling method is to sear hot and fast, to no more than medium rare because it's a dense, lean muscle that toughens easily. In real life, when I tried that, the steaks were still so tough I fed them to the dog. He didn't mind. So since then I've always added it to the grinding mix for burgers and sausage - adds intense, beefy flavor.
If you do grill them, hopefully yours will come out better... or not, since you appear to be a dog.

The intense beef flavor makes me trhink it would be good in stock.

I use this recipe for deer hearts. We like it. One piece of advice buried in the narrative I want to point out is to undercook the heart a little. Also don’t slice thick, thinner is better.

A recipe for grilled deer heart with marinated peppers and onions. This recipe works with deer, elk, moose, antelope or beef, pork or veal.

Look for a recipe for Peruvian anticuchos. Marinated beef heart skewers. I've made it a couple of times and it's delicious. I can't find my Peruvian cookbook or I'd give you the recipe. I probably loaned it to someone and forgot who.

Definitely don't overcook the heart. It's dense and lean and will turn into shoe leather really fast if you let it go too long.

This is about as elementary as it gets: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jfkuxd-ED24

I would slice it and then I would grill it up hot and fast.

I grind up the beef heart I get and it goes into my dogs raw diet. (That is not to say I am disgusted by it or would not eat myself......I don't have kids, so he eats well. ) He loves it. I have never tried to cook and eat it myself. Maybe I should try it one of these days.

Please let us know what you end up doing as well as how it tastes. I am curious!

I love Oscars. The kids trained one to jump up and take food from their fingers. They ate every other thing we put in the aquarium including the big snails.

Oak Smoke Yes, when I was young, all the neighborhood kids had fish tanks. I had 5 tanks and the largest was a 75 gallon tank that my father made. At first we all had Cichlids - Oscars, Firemouths, Pikes, Arrawanahs, Convicts, etc. Then we graduated to African Cichlids. I also trained my Oscars to jump out of the tank and take food from my fingers. Had a snapping turtle once that got out of the tank. Could not find it for a month, then found it crawling across the bathroom floor one night.

Years ago I had taken that old beef heart and with my filet knife made a slice into the side long ways then just unrolled so I had a kind of a funnel shape it layed flat. Made a filling just don't remember what is was however sausage, bacon would work good then just roll back up tie tight with string smoke her low and slow til the center gets to where it makes you happy.

I used to crock pot mine slice the heart @1" thick with seasonings, can of cream of mushroom soup, carrots, sliced onion and potatoes.
On low for 4 to 6 hours.

I had it once at my Aunt and Uncle's ranch when I was a kid. I think it was braised.
