What are these new powders for?

I lead a sheltered life by choice. I just saw a commercial advertising colostrum, powdered beef liver, and powdered beef organs. Each in a separate bottle and all in one commercial. Why would anyone need or want these? Colostrum is for babies, I don’t eat liver and who would even consider something so generic as powdered beef organs? Syrup of ipecac wouldn’t work on me any better than these would.

Semi cynical (or is it full on?) answer; yet another fad. You and I have lived long enough to have seen thousands (seems like) of these...........oatmeal to reduce cholesterol, magnetic bracelets to relieve pain, crystal healing for health balance, drinking your own urine (there's a real winner) and so on. Some benign, some yucky like those you mention along with kale (double yuck) as a "super food".

Agreed Tom, some of what became fads have a basis in real performance at some level. Where I would say that the notion of becoming a fad occurs is when a matter of good practice elevates to a "silver bullet solution" touted to be embraced by all.

In America there always has to be the next "thing" that everyone wants for the holidays. So buzz gets generated and people everywhere are at Walmart fighting over who gets their hands on a George Foreman grill, a bread maker, a cabbage patch doll, a furby, a computerized pressure cooker, the Clapper...And diets follow a similar pattern. "Super foods," "Keto," South Beach, Sugar Busters...It's that perceived notion of not being left out that drives part of our economy...

I've bought that stuff as toppers for dog food, but never for human consumption.
