Grass-fed, dry-aged, you can keep those hyphenated proteins.

I like dry aged, I just don’t like it more enough for all the work and cost that goes into it.

Last time I tried grass fed beef I thought it tasted literally like grass. Rather have grain...

Seeing as I don't know what that tastes like... I'm not sure. It def tastes like it's been rolling around in my yard after a cut. And beef.

I like it. I have noticed though, that most (maybe?) of the grass fed offerings are grain finished.
It is mostly found in the "small print" in my experience.

At my old job, we had grass fed-finished, grass fed-grain, finished. Grass fed is definitely leaner, so a mid rare burger is great, etc. I’m not going to start spouting off how animals are raised, etc. I definitely prefer grain being in the process somewhere.

here’s a question for you…. Ever had carrot finished? Sh*ts crazy looking! Not my jams.

Sure grass fed beef is better than grain fed. But when grass fed cattle are finished with carrots, Santa Carota Beef delivers an incredible eating experience that’s second to none.

Sounds crazy, but then that is what I thought about acorn finished pork I bought from a local farmer. Didn't think acorns would make a difference, and I'm naturally suspicious and don't love pork so much (exception: bacon), but was really good. Need to get more, but they only sell by the pig now, and I would need another freezer. So, I'm open minded...

First time I had grass fed beef, ordered from one of the online retailers, I thought something was wrong with it! The aroma….meh…man I thought something was wrong with it!

The flavor, not as bad after it was cooked, but like you and others, not my thing.

the pasture raised, grain finished or grass raised, grain finished isn’t as bad. That I’ve had a few times but prefer heavy on the grain!

Just saw this thread. You should really enjoy whatever you choose from Haltemanmeats as their beef is grass fed and grain finished. Let me know what you think of them.

Probably has a gamier taste, like elk or other wild game that eats mainly grass.

Actually, wild elk is not like venison or more gamey flavored wild animals. Elk has a wonderful "nutty" flavor. Several times I have surreptitiously served elk to my friends you swear that they will never eat any of that strong, smelly game meat. Well, every time the elk was well received and I got a lot of "I can't believe that was elk, it was so tasty and mild." The exception in elk is if you get an old bull. Those can be strong flavored and tough. Younger elk have a much better flavor.

Last time I had elk was over 35 years ago, and couldn't remember exactly what it tasted like.
Maybe if you were to send a few packages my way, I could jog my memory...😉

I’m also not a fan of grass-fed beef. When I first tried some and didn’t like I was sure something was wrong with my palate. Now I find myself in stellar company and out of the closet. I’ll eat dry-aged beer (Edit: beef, but I just had to leave the typo in for humor’s sake) all day long, though.

                Whatever makes them fatter.

I am also not on grass fed trend. I know it’s technically better for you. However, it does not taste better. I will eat grass fed of course. I’d rather have that than any white meat, but between grass and grain fed, I’m goin grain fed all day.

The steaks I got from butcher box are grass fed. We like them. Yet there’s a noticeable difference in the fat, or lack there of when compared to the prime cuts I have from Creekstone and Costco. Also in the taste too. I’m dumping butcher box though because it’s expensive and the cuts are on the smaller side. Other than that though, I have zero desire to buy grass fed.
