    Teres Major cut of beef

Has anyone ever had a teres major cut of beef? My son goes to a butcher shop in Atlanta that sells this cut and he says it is very flavorful, tender and inexpensive. He smokes and grills it on his BGE. I have not seen this cut of beef in the grocery stores and I have not tried to find it in a local butcher shop.

Did a bit of research, it sounds like its kinda like a tri tip id so I'd cook it like a tri tip..
Others here may know better about this cut.

Yes I have cooked and enjoyed it many times. Very beefy taste. Tender if cooked right. Used to be kind of an unknown and therefore less costly. Like anything, now that it’s been discovered the cost is ramping up. Get it while you can!

It is very good and I agree with your son’s feedback from the butcher. You can find it online at Porter Road at least.

Our dry aged, hand-cut Teres Major is unlike any you’ve ever tasted. This is a classic ‘butcher’s cut’ — a hidden gem that you’re unlikely to find at your local grocery store. All of our beef are pasture-raised with no antibiotics and no added hormones. We dry age our Angus beef whole to give each and every cut a rich, steakhouse flavor.

Yep, this is one of my favorite cuts. Very delicious and flavorful with a great texture. Here is some info I wrote up on it a couple years back: https://completecarnivore.com/what-is-the-teres-major/

Definitely give it a try if you can get your hands on one. I have never seen it at any of my local butchers and have always had to order it.

My grocery store carries SRF teres major (petite tender). It’s definitely a very nice cut.

Some of the stores here have some SRF stuff but I have never seen a Teres Major. Would buy it in a heartbeat if I did see it.

Teres major steak is a cut of beef from the chuck section (also known as the shoulder). This small muscle weighing about 12-16 ounces, helps to connect the shoulder blade to the front shoulder. It resembles tenderloin both in shape and texture; however, teres major steak is much smaller.

Now we both know. Thanks for the post.

Cook like a fillet. Love it. It is to a fillet what a chuckeye is to a ribeye

            That's a good comparison.

Just cleaned out the locker at the grocery so I can take home whatever was there frozen. Two bottom flat roasts, one rib about 15 pounds, and sixty pounds of shoulder tenders. Bonus!!!! I can put it all in the freezer until I decide what to do with it. Do you suppose I can make corned beef or pastrami out of the tenders?
