I stopped buying ground beef in those chubs years ago, mostly on advice I read here I think. Those tend to be packed somewhere other than the local grocery store, and seem to be more subject to recall. I like to see what the ground beef looks like, so only get it packed in the foam trays with the clear wrap on them, or fresh from the meat counter if that is an option.

They had a recall like this maybe 2 or 3 years ago and it turned out to be frozen fat particles. Initially that one was thought to be glass particles. Hopefully it's that again. Ice cubes on product at times gives the illusion of some sort of contamination, of course you need the correct parallax.

Don’t buy ground beef anymore for this very reason. Always grind my own.
Went in to a butchers shop long time ago and was looking at their cuts of meat. I looked up and behind the counter was an industrial type grinder that had been used, but not cleaned. The residue beef on the grinder had that deep, red oxidized look to it like it had been sitting there awhile…..
