QVC SALE: Rastelli's tenderloins! (what a deal?)

(Posting in the beef forum rather than in the deal forum, because this is more a discussion on pricing/quality rather than about the promotion itself, which may or may not active by the time you read this)

Casually flipping through the channels and saw QVC is hawking Rastelli's tenderloin filet mignon as I type this.

For the low price of $109, you get eight (8) 5oz filets, possibly wrapped in bacon.

By our rough math, this comes to about $40/lb for this filet.

While we have our own opinion on whether this is actually a good deal or not --- we were curious, what're YOUR thoughts?

DISCLAIMER: we enjoy watching the QVC/HSN food-related programming, as we often enjoy the lengths the talking heads go to in pitching their wares for 20m per promotion window. It's casual entertainment for us. The cookie convos are wildly amusing

Lol, they just said a family of 8 would enjoy ordering the $30/lb center cut salmon (10 6oz filets for $100, if our math is right)

perhaps bought one time.. but not on the EZ Pay once per month shipment...

One valuable life lesson that I learned was not to watch home shopping shows and infomercials featuring men with Aussie accents selling cooking gear.

Oh, the Curtis Stone segments are super-hilarious to us.

slight paraphrase, and we believe we've shared this earlier. Curtis' commentary while presenting a 4oz filet: "You can take this beautiful filet, just look at that, and you can even slice it like this for a wonderful dinner for two..."

Because you typically want to split a 4oz filet with someone? Seems like a tiny portion to us, but hey - maybe they do things differently in Australia. Outback Steakhouse definitely does not have a 2oz filet on their menu, is all we're saying.

truth: when there's nothing worthwhile to watch (or begin watching knowing it'll be interrupted shortly), HSN/QVC can be very entertaining. We often play the "name the color" game when they're presenting appliances or shoes: "This blender comes in.... [[cranberry??]] .... pomegranate.... [[creme??]] ... white ice .... [[charcoal??]] ... black ...."

😂😂 Uh, let me fix that:

"You can take this beautiful filet, just look at that, and you can even add five more for a wonderful dinner for two…."

I cut the cord a few years back, and have no cable TV or satellite TV any more, and put an OTA antenna up on the roof on the side of my chimney, and its pulling in 40 local stations at the moment. I was shocked when I first did that to find that one of the local stations is rebroadcasting QVC on one of their sub-channels! Sure, I knew you had to flip across that crap on cable, but apparently, it makes enough money to where QVC pays channels all over the country to broadcast over the air as well!

And no - I am not splitting a 4 ounce fillet with anyone! I'll be asking for the other half of my 8 ounce steak instead, haha...

For some reason $40 a pound does not sound like a great deal!

That’s not a terrible price, but it’s not a good deal, either. I’d doesn’t say what grade it is on Rastelli’s website, but they list prime filets separately, so it’s probably choice. Choice tenderloin filet is $37/lb locally.

$3/lb isn’t going to kill anyone who is looking at filet mignon. But what filet shopper is going to look for filet on QVC? I don’t know, the world has gone crazy.
