    Picanha at our Costco

This is the first time I've seen this at our local Costco. A 2 pack of top sirloin whole cap with the fat cap. They're packaged fat to fat, so you can't tell the fat thickness, but I only had about a pound of trimmings to get it down to 1/4 inch of fat.

All they had were USDA Choice, but the price was $6.99/lb., as opposed to the choice top sirloin steaks at $9.99/lb. I cooked one last night and it was very tender, I'll be buying some more. Sorry no pics this time, but will do next time.

Costco has gotten on the bandwagon for this cut and even had a sign that said "Picanha"

Nice! My Costco has always taken off all
the fat and sliced it into "top sirloin cap off" steaks. Relatively inexpensive and flavorful but a dang shame anyway. Hope this is available here.

Mine did the same. Dang shame they took the fat cap off. They did have tri-tip though. Fist time I have seen that cut in Maryland.

The top sirloin with the cap off that Costco sometimes sells is not just the fat cap removed. It's the top sirloin with the sirloin cap (picanha) removed. It's a delicious cut and can be broken down into "baseball" sirloin filets.

I had to get one from Wild Fork.

Update, my local Costco had both choice and prime. The choice had the fat cap but the prime looked like the fat cap was removed. I went with the choice for this reason.

I've never seen either in the Chicago area.

184B is the top sirloin, cap off, and 184D is the sirloin cap, "coulette" or "picanha."

I have a 2 pack in the fridge from Costco. I had never seen it here in our local MD stores. Best of all there is no "Blade Tenderized" on the label. This will be my first time trying it.

Just grabbed a pack today in central NJ. No picanha signage but definitely the same product. Very big Brazilian population around here so maybe it’ll sell well stick around. I’d have to look again but think it was under $6/lb. Can’t wait to try them out this weekend
