I decided to do some Vortex wings tonight and was going to originally post this at SUWYC. I was in the mood for some sauced wings and started digging through my fridge. I pulled out some Stubb’s Sweet Heat and Meathead’s BBQ sauce I bought a few months ago. While trying to decide which one I wanted, I said what the heck, let’s do both! In the process I thought I’d give an honest review here of which sauce I liked best. Nothing better than a side by side comparison.
I prepped all the wings the same way, marinated in……wait for it…..Good Season’s Italian Dressing and Tony's! Shocking I know! 🙄 After marinating the wings for a few hours, I lit my chimney and dumped the hot coals in the Vortex. I then placed about 4 or 5 smallish chunks of mesquite on top of the coals. After the wood started smoking I placed my wing pieces on the grill for about 45 minutes total, turning the wings over a few times during the cook. I used some cheap ass coals I bought on sale, so my temps weren’t that hot. That’s why it took a little longer than normal.

I LABELED EACH SAUCE…S & M…😳

MEATHEAD’S SAUCED WINGS IN THE REAR. STUBB’S IN FRONT OF PLATE.

IT’S APPARENT I LOVED THE WINGS….

I’ve been a life long fan of Stubb’s BBQ sauces, all their flavors, and I still am. There’s a lot of great sauces out there to choose from, along with some duds. These wings actually turned out as some of the best I’ve ever done, not just because of the sauce, but sometimes the cook just “clicks”. This is my 100% honest thoughts on both of the BBQ sauces and which one I preferred. I liked Meathead’s sauce the first time I tried it and thought it was some of the best I’ve had. I still feel that way, and preferred it over the Stubb’s Sweet Heat, and Stubb’s has always been one of my favorites. Now, I ain’t no professional critic who can say…”Oh, the undertones of mulberry tingled my pallet.” 😂 Or whatever….I’ll just say the flavor of Meathead’s BBQ sauce won out over Stubb’s. The Stubb’s had a little more spiciness to it, which I liked, but it still wasn’t enough for me to choose Stubbs over Meathead’s.
Meathead’s BBQ Sauce….a solid A…….Stubb’s….a B+
