I have the same issue as Henrik. I'm using a MacBook Pro with the newest Yosemite OS (10.10.1) and it's the same whether I use Chrome, Safari or Firefox.

Here's one using the image upload from Photobucket

OK, I feel for those that are having problems with posting pics.

I haven't had any problems and this is how I post them.

If the pic is on Amazon I just right click on the image and hit copy
Go to my post and hit paste where ever I have the cursor and the pic appears.

I am not an IT kinda guy and maybe this is just to simple.

For pics that I have taken I put them on my Smugmug account for hosting my pics.

I copy the pic in whatever size I want it to be and then just paste it in the post.

      Here is one from Amazon.

And one from Smugmug. This is small

      Medium

      Large

I am on a dell Laptop using Chrome and I have been using this since I signed on to the Pit. It is the best and easiest way to post pics that I have ever had. The fewest key strokes, it is great.

Barry when you say the pic is "on amazon" do you mean the amazon cloud? Please give us a little more detail.

For smugmug... how are you posting the pics here in The Pit? Are you using the "upload attachment button" and then pasting in a URL?

      #18
I get the pic from the Amazon store. Some pics you can copy. So the Grilla pic was just a copy and paste. No upload no url. It is so elementary it is unbelievable. Copy and paste directly in the body of the post.. It will not work in the comments section. And that is both in Smugmug and any other pics that can be copied off the internet.

Just to add some more info: I looked at my post #12 in this thread (done with IE as browser), and at the bottom there is an attachment note saying the image is 11Kb. However, when I look at it on disc, it is 75Kb. That must mean it is getting mangled during upload. Somehow the image is shrunk or something already when uploading the attachment, so therefore it doesn't matter which size link I click on.

Henrik, how do you get your images from your camera or phone to your computer? If you are using some kind of program would you instead plug your camera or card into your computer and bring up a file browser and copy the images to a directory on your computer. Start a post and select one of those images. What happens?

            It happens auto-magically :-)

Most of the time I use iCloud photo sharing, so any picture I take with my smartphone ends up in my computer whenever I'm on a Wifi. I did check the images for correctness before uploading yesterday by examining the file/photo on disk. I don't use any image processing software "in between".

Maybe it's the magic doing something Just wondering, was the turkey image in the iCloud when you posted it? I am thinking that some where along your process (and others maybe) of attaching images, it is getting compressed. However, that doesn't explain why multiple attachments of different photos are progressively smaller. When you select an image for attachment is it on your computer or in the iCloud? Maybe I don't fully understand how the iCloud works, but I think images taken with your phone go in the cloud first and then your computer syncs with the cloud and appears on your computer. Try to either get an image from your phone/camera onto your computer and select one of those as an attachment.

Henrik try attaching pics using a photo that has been saved to your PC. Let's get the cloud out of the equation.

Thanks, Pit Boss, but I have already done that. The turkey image for example, which I used in several samples.

Let me know if I can get in touch directly with the IT folks via Skype or Google Hangout. I'd be happy to talk to the engineers, as I'm a full time software developer myself. That way they could ask me all tech questions, and hopefully I can be of help.

Gotcha Henrik and thanks for that offer. I'll let you know if they want to get in touch.

I usually e-mail my pics from my iPhone to my MacBook and do it at full size (though I've tried smaller sizes also). I've also tried increasing the pixels, etc. to make even larger files but they still shrink. In a brand new thread, they start larger than miniature but still not full size, but each photo posted to the same thread gets progressively smaller. Note that this all started a couple of months ago after having no problems with the same process: iPhone -> e-mail to MacBook -> Post

I agree, this worked a couple of months ago. Unfortunately I can't be very precise about the time, but just like you I haven't changed my process. I don't think it is related to iOS either, as I can replicate the error on a Windows 8.1 machine.

Was this about the time when IOS 8 was released? Did you update your phone at that time? IOS 8 came out Sept. 17 according to Wikipedia.

I've certainly updated to iOS 8, but I couldn't tell you when. I'll get a photo taken with my Canon dSLR and see what happens.

Funny thing I just noticed after posting below, the Thumbnail pic looks the same size as my thumbnail, but your other images are actually smaller than the 'small' sized picture below. Maybe that's because the starting image was 2048x1365?

              #26
Just testing my upload. I usually resize the images to 800px on the long side before uploading. This is a resized image 2048x1365 and 840kB. vBulletin should resize it to the max 800x600.

When you select the image size Thumbnail, Small or what have you, does the image actually appear in those various sizes? Before you post the reply do the images show as fullsize in this edit box? If they are all small it's your browser. If they are large before you post, then it's vBulletin making them small. I suspect it's the browser and or OS. My only suggestion is to keep your browser, OS and phone/tablet up to date.

My images above show up in the size you see when I select the various options. Not sure if your second question is intended to ask something different or is just clarification. As Henrik commented, this happens whether I'm using Chrome, Safari or Firefox. And he has the issue on both Mac and PC. So that doesn't seem to be it either - although the issue is slightly different for my iPhone photos and my Canon photos (the latter transferred by the SD card). As for updating, I'm usually one of the first to update when available.

I've been reading some of the vBulletin forums and this seems to be a known problem. It was supposed to have been fixed in 5.1.1 and seems to have been broken again in subsequent releases. There is a problem with the editor itself. Short of pulling out my programming tools not much we can do until they fix it or come up with a work around.

Has anyone seen a pattern in the problem? Photo type (jpg, tif, png), file size, user browser or operating system, etc? If it's not happening to everyone it's tough to finger a specific cause and solution.

Does the issue happen in every browser? Does it happen only on a specific computer? Do you have any browser plug-ins or other software, like spam or ad blockers running?

They work fine for me. I upload JPEGs of all sizes from PC, Windows 7, Firefox 33.1. No problems since the initial issues last summer got handled.
