Thank you for all your hard work, Ray. You put in a ton of work that very few people see or understand. (myself included)
It is somewhat easier these days, thanks to AI. I know what needs to be done, but since I do not do it often, I do not remember the exact details for each step. AI provides that now. Instead of searching for some tutorial that may or may not be up to date.
But the number of steps after the server is brought online to a fully functional site is still many hour of work. And I am still not done as I am planning to start transferring the daily backups to another server for storage.
I also spent a long time working on locking down the server to be much more hacker proof. If any fellow geeks/nerds want to know the details of the hack (it was clever). Let me know.

Had to install vsftpd onto a machine to receive backups from some hosted sites. Haven’t done this in some time. Installed with help from articles online. Got errors and corrected many. Could connect but not transfer data. Ufw, directory structure, ports, config; everything apparently correct. Posted curl response to AI, and got one question back. Duh, of course! All fixed and working.
Yeah, my goto for tech details these days is my paid AI account. It's amazing what outdated information is hanging around all over the place. AI helps me quickly sift through all the garbage. It's not foolproof, but often shortens my day. What's nice is now I can give it access to our entire code base, let it make suggestions, help with design options, and in a few cases simplify projects. I let it do a lot of the grunt work. Saves me from typing so much and speeds up our delivery time.

Count me in! While I may have sweated it out in food for ~22 yrs, since then ('98), it's been IT, starting as a Unix sysadmin, to Sr. Unix/Windows guy, to Storage Eng. But I'll always be a Unix weenie at heart; still abhor most GUIs and head for a terminal to solve problems. I'm nearly done now and I'm grateful, because AI is gonna decimate the workforce that currently keeps the lights on, not tomorrow but eventually.
Anyway, great recovery!; I'd like to read about it.
I do not know the vector used to gain the level of access that was gained: root. This is the first time I have ever seen that. I suspect it has something to do with recent kernel bugs that allow privilege escalation. But I have not found the evidence of how it was done.
I have many many lines of custom code (plugins, etc) that
