I must be brief. I am super tired. It is 2am and I have been working to fix this all day.

The short answer to the issue is: the server was hacked by crypto miners and when I started trying to clean it up, they crashed the server and it would not reboot.

I had to use Linodes weblish login to gain access. And to get all the files and database.

Then I spent the day building a new server and getting it set up so that I could restore the files and data.

There will be bugs. I am sure. I will have to check things out when I wake up. Peace.

TLDR: Discovered the site of an international company I work with got hacked by an Asian gambling site early Sunday morning. Contacted them and then got accidentally(?) added to the email chain between IT, middle managers, and top executives. Blew up my email box as they worked all day, through the night, and into the next morning.

They probably had a dozen or so IT staff working on it, and a host of middle management and executives involved. Ray, I really feel for you handling it with just a small contingent. On the other hand since you didn’t need to deal with a lot of management you probably got the situation in check much more efficiently than they did.🙂

1st minor bug report: When trying to upload a png and a different jpg file I got a corrupted file error message. They are not corrupted.

I have been through similar situations throughout my career.
The cost of security is often overlooked because it is a high price. (not complaining, just referencing experience)
Do we know what type of data was impacted? Did they harvest our accounts and do we need to change our passwords? (prudent to do so regardless)
