Walking around the Lower East Side in Manhattan and came across this vintage/used cookbook shop today. Bonnie Slotnick Cookbooks. Super cute. This is such an old school NYC type of business-I had to pop in.
Cookbooks and trinkets stuffed everywhere. Made me think of our two (I know there’re more) cookbook aficionados.
There was even a little BBQ section!
I had to buy something, so I found a Mexican cookbook by Diana Kennedy.

JCBBQ, I haven’t cooked any of them. I just like to read cookbooks, odd though that may seem. But they’re pretty straightforward, and I’d call them “unadorned”. But you’ll be tootling along, thinking, “I can do that, I can do that….” And all of a sudden, “WHERE THE HELL AM I GOING TO GET EPAZOTE IN WILKES-BARRE?” So there’s that.
Why do you post things like this when I'm already neck deep in shopping? I don't have the will power to resist such temptations. 🤣
At least they don't have an online store. I'll have to resist the temptation to pick up the Mexican cookbook until after the holidays. But it won't be easy.
My wife just told me yesterday that taking a family trip to NYC during Xmas is on her bucket list. We’ve been together for 16+ years and this is the first I’m hearing about this! 🤣
She went in high school, and has secretly been wanting to go back since. I’ve never been - save for a layover at JFK - and honestly never had much desire to go.
But between my wife and stores like this…let’s go!

58limited tough question, for sure. I would say The Art of Mexican Cooking and Cuisines a very close 2nd. My Mexico has a lot of storytelling. Nothing Fancy is several recipes, but not the deep dive into authentic Mexican cuisine like the first two.

Oh man, i need to visit that cook book store ….. that’s awesome. I’m not as “bad” as SheilaAnn, but I am pretty bad. I have probably 5 shelves worth of cookbooks plus the pile I keep on the counter because I use them regularly.
Little over a year ago I stopped looking exclusively for recipes on line and started delving back into all the cookbooks i already had again. And then a certain someone cough cough Sheilaann inspired me to buy about 5 more this calendar year. MCBS is alive and well. ❤️❤️
