Oh; fun fact: the organizers’ son is this guy, Connor McGovern. His parents are very nice folks, so whether you’re a fan or not, just hope he stays healthy!

So here's one question - you said yours was the only one that wasn't ground beef, but you think that counted AGAINST you? You think people just like the ground beef, or are USED to the ground beef or what? I really find it hard to believe anyone would choose a ground beef chili over a chuck roast chili side by side simply based on the meat - assuming all other things were equal, meaning same recipe, cook technique, etc.
I'm just struggling with the thought that cubed chuck might have been a detriment, I guess? Did you get comments that specifically made you think that? I'm curious.

Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.

This is rural Pennsylvania. I didn’t get anyone saying it was a detriment, but it was like showing up with my hair dyed green, if that makes sense. Folks don’t like “different” around here.

I clicked on a Chinese Dumpling Restaurant in Chicago's Chinatown about 10 years ago, and I must have clicked "favorite" or something, as it still shows up when I zoom in on downtown.

That’s so funny! Everywhere has their “different “ I can so identify with that. Especially rural communities. When we went to register to vote after moving here the little old lady at the desk looked up at me and said “You’re not from…Pause… California are you?”

Insert probably any Midwest community here, but where I'm from in Indiana, women are given one small tin of "chili powder" as a wedding gift. 35 years later, that same tin is providing the "chili" flavoring in the tomato/hamburger/bean soup with pasta that is called chili. Yep. And vary from that one iota and you, Sir, are trying to be uppity. Done gone above yer raisin.'

Sans outdoor cooker for the last 5 years. Time to change that.
I do have a Thermapen and a ThermoWoks Dot. So, I got that going for me.
The fact you came in third under those conditions is pretty darned good. With the votes stacked in the other's favor to begin with, you are basically was number one in non-bias category. 👍
