Not sure I should be thinking this hard about hot dogs.

I also wasn’t sure if this should have just gone in SUWYC. But I think it’s stupid enough to get its own topic. I’m just trying to stretch my mind, make stuff out of stuff I already have, and make something I’ve never made before. So, here goes nothin’….

Nacho cheese dip, refried beans with cumin, garlic powder, and Texas Dave’s Pepper Powder, crushed tortilla chips, salsa, queso fresco. 5/1 hot dog, steak roll. Because gonna need all that steak roll for this sucka.

    Grill that dog.

I wasn’t sure how to build this. I didn’t really think it through. But how hard can it be, right? Spread the refried beans,

Click image for larger version Name:	20250602_181442.jpg Views:	0 Size:	2.95 MB ID:	1735195

    Then half the chips,

Click image for larger version Name:	20250602_181516.jpg Views:	0 Size:	2.78 MB ID:	1735196

    Then half the queso dip.

Click image for larger version Name:	20250602_181633.jpg Views:	0 Size:	2.82 MB ID:	1735197

Then the hot dog, and the rest of the nacho cheese,

Click image for larger version Name:	20250602_181715.jpg Views:	0 Size:	2.39 MB ID:	1735198

And the rest of the chips,

Click image for larger version Name:	20250602_181741.jpg Views:	0 Size:	2.65 MB ID:	1735199

    And the salsa.

Click image for larger version Name:	20250602_181826.jpg Views:	0 Size:	2.50 MB ID:	1735200

    Order up!

Click image for larger version Name:	20250602_182123.jpg Views:	0 Size:	2.82 MB ID:	1735201

I was worried about this maintaining hot dog integrity, but it actually held up pretty well!

Click image for larger version Name:	20250602_182423.jpg Views:	0 Size:	2.06 MB ID:	1735202

It turned out to be a 3 napkin hot dog. I took a fork out with me, but I didn’t need it until the very end.

10/10. Would make this again. Probably with smaller hot dogs and buns, though. And the queso fresco was kinda lost. Maybe adding cilantro with it? For presentation, y’know. Color. Red, white, green.

There’s also a point to be made: do whatever the heck you want, it’s your hot dog.

I love the way your brain works when you're bored! Ha. I can guarantee I'd never think of that combo but I'd belly up to that for sure.

The best part was that nothing overpowered anything else. Each bite had cheese, beans, salsa, crunchy chips, bun, and meaty dog.

That looks really good! I've got everything except the hotdogs and buns. Might need to make this soon.

I make my salsa pretty thick. If yours is thin, let it sit in a strainer for 10 minutes, or on a paper towel. And I would have liked the queso dip a tiny bit thicker, but really it was fine as it was. You don’t know how it will be when it cools, y’know? The beans were canned, the chips from a bag.

"...do whatever the heck you want, it’s your hot dog". Darn right! Also, the hot dog you made looks great.

Deep fry that, and you could sell it at the Texas state fair.

That looks great, but where are the pickled jalapenos?

I have them. But the salsa is tomato-serrano-habanero, so the pickled jalapeños would get lost in there.

You're not just puttin' on the dog with that one! Would eat.

Nah, not everyone reads all of SUWYC, and stuff like this needs to be seen. Maybe you need a "From The Mind Of Mosca" thread?

Well, if Tom would just stay on his medications we might not need involve the men in the white coats. 😉

kitchen sink, looks like a roll of paper towels, not 3 napkins. Looks tasty.

I'll bet if that were offered at a hot dog stand the line would stretch around the block.

I'm in the same camp, although I'm cutting way back on sodas all together. I love my Diet Cokes, but there's so many indicators out there, anecdotal or not, that they're pretty nasty for us. I still got 'em in the beer fridge, but I'm consciously forcing my hand to grab the bottle of water. The struggle....

Yes CaptainMike, the struggle is real. I switched to the little 7.5oz cans a couple years ago. Quite often one is enough.

I switched from 2 liters to cans. They’re more expensive per ounce, but less expensive per day because I drink a lot less diet soda this way.

                    Yum!

Maybe scoop out some of the fluffy part of the bun to make room?

I thought about that, but I never made these before so I didn’t know how it would stack up, literally. But it’s a good idea. I’d probably press it, rather than tear it.
