Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I’m just wondering if this is local, or more widespread. I went to three different grocery store before I found it, and then it wasn’t the box, but the smaller 16oz canister. One store had David’s, but no Diamond nor Morton’s; another had Diamond, and the store brand, but no Morton’s; the third had Diamond, the store brand, and the small Morton’s.
I’m used to Morton’s. I know the others work, but I don’t want to pull out my conversion charts to cook a meal. How is availability where you are?
It’s been that way at my neighborhood for quite some time. I’ll go to the store and sometimes there’s like one or two boxes. I have no idea what the issue is.
Every time I go to Costco they have had it. I will say once you use Diamond you will fall in love. I personally like it much more than Morton's. The Crystals are much more even sized and it seems to absorb into meat better.
Edit: local Grocery store here is Jewel and they also have had Morton every time I've look.
Back in late 2021 and early 2022, in neither Colorado Springs or the surrounding towns was there any salt of any kind (kosher or table) from any brand to be found, which lasted 3-4 months. We still have problems with finding distilled water from time to time.
I buy it so infrequently, because one of the boxes lasts me for about a year of BBQ'ing, that I don't know if my local store has it or not. Only salt I personally bought this summer was a box or two of ice cream (rock) salt, and they had it when I needed it. I used to use my pool salt for making ice cream, and for deicing the steps and sidewalk in winter, but over the past few years, all the local places that sell 40 pound bags of salt are selling granular rather than crystals. Go figure.
Hard to get here recently too. Found one box the other day at the Walmart and got it, but have more ordered. All grocers here are out. I could drive down the road to grand saline and probably get it direct though.
Same thing here. I've been looking at all the grocery stores in the area and no luck. Been that way for a few weeks now. Sea salt and regular table salt are there, but no kosher.
I see Morton's fairly regularly in the stores here. The only place locally to get Diamond Crystal is a US Foods Chef's Store but even that is hit and miss. We ran out a week or so ago and just ordered some on Walmart. Pretty much the same price.
I used to prefer Morton's but I like the pinch feel of the Diamond Crystal better. It seems a bit flakier and the Morton's seems a bit grainier. They both get the job done just fine though.
I came to say same thing Dan Deter beat me to. I use Diamond, usually get it at Costco. Back mid summer, seems like, I couldn't find it, or Morton, at all. Iodized table salt, but no kosher. I read about the strike, apparently there were first the (now) usual supply chain issues, but then there were some trading hands of several salt companies, including Morton in US and Windsor Salt in Canada (IIRC), and then a lengthy strike. Ended up with a lot of shortages, and I think they are only just now starting to resupply. I got some Diamond recently, would have taken Morton if that was the only choice, but don't recall seeing Morton at all.
