If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
Ok guys, so how about brown rice? Does it get any love here? My wife and oldest daughter prefer it to the white. It certainly has health benefits in the amount of fiber, rice and minerals that have been taken out of white rice by milling it. Yet the local places like Costco and Sam's only seem to stock 25 pound sacks of Jasmine and Basmati white rice...
Also, which one is better for fried rice - jasmine or basmati? Or maybe whatever rice you have, haha...
For its health benefits, I substitute in brown jasmine rice as mush as possible. I also order brown rice when eating at restaurants/takeouts. I have gotten to like its nutty flavor, but use white rice to please the family every so often. Brown rice works well in fried rice recipes too. I buy what ever brand I can find.
jfmorris I like brown rice with certain meals. It has a hearty flavor that lends itself well to certain meals. But I consume a lot less of it so like barelfly I just buy small bags. Usually, it's this brand.
What I was surprised at was that the big stores like Sam's and Costco only have 25 pound sacks of the white rice, and nothing really beyond some instant brown rice.
I generally use med grain rice Nishiki Brand. I have an H Mart near my work were I often go for lunch and to shop. I just grabbed a bag of Jasmine rice for fried rice. I also picked up Three Rings sticky rice. We have rice 2-3 times a week and use a rice cooker. I had gone down this road seeking the best rice. Came down to there are a few quality brands that are reasonably priced then some specialized brands that were hard to find and expensive. For me buying "authentic" rice in an Asian Market is better than buying the dusty bags at Stop and Shop.

The verdict is in. This rice was a little fluffier and noticably more floral in aroma. It tastes great. It's silly I have not purchased it in bulk before. From now on that's exactly what I will do.
I am more of a brown rice person, but I remember when I first used jasmine (as a recipe insisted on it) and was struck by the floral nature. Definitely not Minute Rice.
Michael_in_TX I mostly use Jasmine rice but the stuff I've been buying from the regular store has never had such a distinct floral aroma as this stuff 👃🌷
