I would like to figure out what rice to stock in bulk. Can you recommend a high-quality brand of Jasmine rice?

I guess I'm outta my league growing up on a rice farm and cooking with aromatics and actual popcorn rice. My dad laughs that now everyone somehow has Jasmine rice in their fields.
I enjoy the smell while it cooks, it pretty much ends there.

When you go to the market look for the Green circle on the side of the bag that is the official mark of the Thai government that certifies it is real jasmine rice and from Thailand. Here's what Pailin has to say about it. She uses a brand that I believe is called "Texana."

So, this came up elsewhere and the consensus was to use Thai Hom Mali rice - https://greedy-panda.com/2020/10/lea...-jasmine-rice/

We buy Thai Jasmine at an Asian store that has probably 10 varieties. There are various grades and price points. I can't recommend one brand over another, but stick to bags labeled "Thai Hom Mali". It's the top grade.
The key is to buy the freshest rice available and not something that has been sitting around in a warehouse somewhere for ages. Look for the works "New Crop" and the year. They freshest stuff tends to sell out the fastest because those who really appreciate the flavor of rice buy it up quickly.
Follow up: I saw 2022 new crop Three Ladies Jasmine (Thai Hom Mali) in a 25 lb. sack for $38.00 at the Asian market this morning.Last edited by Bkhuna; October 30, 2022, 11:50 AM.

I have knack of zaggin when every one else is ziggin. I used Basmati for the longest time. Now I have ditched all high carb rice & have gone to Minnesota Wild Rice. It is much, much lower in the carb department. It is also not rice, it is technically a grass grown in Minnesota, Wisconsin & Michigan only. I have heard of it in California but am suspect of it & not knowing if it is even native to Cali. It also is not cheap. The harvesting is done by canoe & a person in front with two long rods “welcoming” the rice in the boat. The processing is also done by hand.
It is all I use anymore.

I buy the big ol bag of jasmine from costco….this thread makes me think it may not be true jasmine. I don’t have the bag, as we store it in 5 gallon buckets. But I’ll have to check next time.
edit - it actually is legit! It’s Kirkland Signature Thai Hom Mali Jasmine Rice, 25 lbs
but I may have to go buy a small bag of this at the Talin Market soon to compare.

Attjack - haha. I bought some mixology utensils this afternoon….will be here on Wednesday. I’ll be making one then…taking a few days off of the cocktails after the weekend
But, I’m very excited to try this out….and through the cocktail website you sent a while back, I have a few cocktails lined up for the maraschino liqueur as well, specifically the aviation!
