Just got mine as well. I will try them soon. I am thinking about blending them with some Jack Daniel's charcoal pellets. I find the charcoal pellets only provide a mild smoke flavor.

This was a very generous offer - thanks. I don't have a pellet smoker but based on your recommendation I'm going to try some black walnut. I have an uncle and a college buddy both with ranches that have black walnut trees, I should be able to get several shed branches without having to cut a whole tree down.

58limited a log per hour is way to much. Make it a chunk say 4x4. That will be plenty.

Thanks for the advice, I'll use the smaller amount. I wonder, some woods used in West Texas BBQ (pecan and mesquite) are first burned to embers before being put into the pit to avoid strong bitter flavors - would black walnut benefit from this approach?

Used about 1/3 bag in the hopper yesterday to smoke about 10# of pork butts. Noticed a little better smoke profiles, not a lot of difference in flavor (used a fruit wood blend). Will be looking to get more. May try an even more aggressive blend!!
