Panhead John I'm really kicking myself. I had it on my work calendar but because of the government shutdown I've been logged off all week. Bummer.

At Bon Temps Grill the boudin balls that 58limited bought for the group were very good! I ordered an appetizer of seafood stuffed mushrooms which were also tasty. Terrible picture but here’s the last one before I remembered pics…🙄

Blackened redfish over grits with a topping of lump crabmeat on the side…..

Lee ordered their shrimp n grits which she described as delicious and the best she’s had! They sure looked good!

Here’s a better picture of the stuffed mushroom app from Bon Temps! And a cup (using the term lightly) of their gumbo. No extra hot sauce needed!

Well, this weekend is almost done…. And I’m taking the long way home!

Now that some of you have gotten to know me, you can probably guess I’m pretty casual, etc. Certainly not the type who would think she could try and get 2 kilos of cocaine through tsa, right? Ask me how I know!

My ride share thought he was picking me up at the airport, when I texted to find out why he was not picking me up at the hotel. I get to the airport with 10 minutes to spare. I have my handbag, but no luggage. I asked tsa where my luggage is. He holds up my bag and tells me I’m next. I exclaim that my plane is about to close the gate. He says he has to check my bag. I told him it’s JUST tortillas! He says but it looks like 2 kilos of cocaine and proceeds to tear into the first part of my bag. I race to the gate only to find FLIGHT CLOSED.

All for tortillas, granted they are HEB Butter Tortillas. But the suns out now. And I have tortillas. HEB Butter Tortillas.

I stopped at NuNu's in Scott, same exit as Best Stop but turn south instead of north. The reason? This is the boudin that Bon Temps Grill used in their Pepperjack Boudin Balls. I'm not sure if Bon Temps further seasons the boudin other than adding pepperjack. If not then this should be just about the best boudin that I've ever bought.

Click image for larger version Name:	NuNus1.jpg Views:	0 Size:	5.09 MB ID:	1782239

NuNu's is an old time grocery store complete with deli for hot food. Small by modern standards it is bigger than some older stores that I go to. Since they carry beer, and I was out at home, I saved myself a stop at the end of the trip and bought the beer there along with 2 lbs of frozen original boudin. They have several varieties of boudin including crawfish and cauliflower. You can buy fresh, smoked, or frozen. They have four locations and the checkers are nice and greet you as you walk in. I saw the checkers chatting with a lot of regulars while I was there, very friendly place.

At the back right and back wall are all of the goodies that NuNu's makes.

Frozen boudin, sausage, etouffe, jambalaya base, etc. There is some gator meat in there too.

Click image for larger version Name:	NuNus2.jpg Views:	0 Size:	4.51 MB ID:	1782240

Back wall is fresh sausage and boudin. Also seasoned chickens, stuffed pork chops, and much more. I should have gotten the boneless brisket

Brother Bob and I took in the Tabasco factory tour. Very interesting. Ate lunch at their 1868 restaurant. Had the sampler with chicken Gumbo, crawfish etoufé and rd beans and rice. Dessert, pecan pie.

Wanted to visit Vermilionville today and try the restaurant but discovered that they were closed for reasons unknown.

Plan B was to have lunch at Johnson's Boucaniere, a nice spot just down the street from the cathedral. Sunday is BBQ day there. Enjoyed a very good pork steak and boudin link.

I forgot to mention that Bruce Alan Brice, his wife Kim, and I bought some of the Pepperjack Boudin Balls from Bon Temps Grill for Dean TripleB and his brother Bob. They elected to stay at the hotel and watch some sporting event on TV, couldn't really be too important since it was Saturady evening Go Dodgers!

Anyway we thought that they might like a little snack and Dean was wanting to try boudin, which he can now pronounce like a Lafayette native.

Those of you with abundant life experiences know that the eyes can tell a more honest story than the spoken or written word. This next pic tells you all you need to know about PJ and his interactions with our most competent and entertaining wait gal. She's a pro, had PJ wrapped around her finger the whole time we were there. Her eyes show that she's experienced and isn't buying any of PJ's advances, with the look on Bill's face as corroboration.

Lee ordered the shrimp and grits which was well enjoyed, she said it was the best she'd had during this trip. My order was crab cakes with an aioli laced with siracha, yummy. If ever you find yourself down in LaFayette, LA make sure you have a meal there, it's worth it.

Just wanted to give my sincere thanks to everyone who attended the Cajun MeatUp…..especially for the people who traveled such a great distance to attend! It’s not lost on the Texas contingent the expense and time it takes for the out of staters to attend one of these, we appreciate it and always look forward to seeing our fellow Pit Members, wherever you live. I gotta say, this weekend was an absolute blast! I haven’t laughed so much in a long time. There was several new people who’d never attended one before and let me tell ya’, they just slid on in and fit right in with this group like an old shoe. Who’d a thunk we would have more California people in Louisiana than those of us who live next door?! We did forgive TripleB for mispronouncing boudin! 😉

Anyway, I also wanted to give a shout out to The Homewood Suites in Lafayette for going out of their way and giving us a ride in their shuttle van to dinner at Bon Temps last night, an unexpected treat for sure! Not just that, but everyone at the hotel was so nice and friendly to us all. We’ve stayed at a Homewood Suites by Hilton several times for MeatUps in the past and I’ve always been impressed with their hotels and the staff. Highly recommended!

Following 58limited ‘s lead, here’s my favorite restaurants/meals from this weekend…..all were at least pretty good to excellent!

            1. Laura’s II Creole Cafe - A must visit if you’re in town!
            2. Mezcal Mexican Restaurant - Some of the best Mexican food I’ve had. And the prices were not bad at all! Large portions.
            3. Bon Temps Grill - If atmosphere and friendly, funny and helpful employees were figured into the equation, this place would be #1. The food DID NOT let us down either. 👍
            4. Turtles Bar and Grill at the Atchafalaya Basin - This might be a surprising choice to some, but my gumbo, oyster poboy and alligator bites were pretty darn good! They had a tartar sauce to go with the alligator bites that I loved! This is where we did the swamp tour.
            5. The Cajun Table - This place was a “minor” disappointment to me and a few others. While we had high hopes, it just didn’t live up to the expectations….for me anyway.

We still have a few folks in town that aren’t leaving till tomorrow, so, it ain’t quite over yet.

Thank you John for coordinating the hotel, tours and dinners. You did a great job. My brother and I had a lot of fun. Thanks Dave 58limited for bringing your homemade sausage, the boudin balls and your patience for correcting me numerous times on my pronunciation of "boudin". Everybody was very gracious, kind and full of humor and grace. It was indeed a delightful little get away from the daily grind. Thank you all and look forward to seeing you all again at the next Meat-Up.

Last night in Lafayette and we went to Don's Seafood. I had a bowl of Gumbo and a Wedge salad. The Gumbo was the best I had on our trip.

Gumbo is something I love to make and so I ordered it at just about every eating establishment I went to. Wanting to see if there is something I'm missing in my recipe and product. Had some "ok" Gumbo (Cajun Table) to some very good Gumbo (Don's Seafood) and everything inbetween.

Loved the roast beef with gravy poboy at Chris'. Gonna recreate that at home. That was pure comfort food.

Thank you Lafayette! You were a great host. Thanks for the food and memories.
