Last night’s meal at Mexcal Mexican Restaurant was excellent! I’d never heard of a dish like this before but all the ingredients sounded really good, it did not disappoint!……Broussard Choice

Broussard… any one know if that’s the chef or the ingredients? Have we heard from Jerod? I mean, I saw Deliverance, so…

The Atchafalaya Basin is one of the most beautiful places I’ve been.

This morning most of the group did a swamp tour in nearby Henderson, La. about a 30 minute drive from the hotel. Couldn’t have had better weather, it was gorgeous!

Pretty sure I had one of his brothers for lunch today.

We had lunch at Turtle’s Bar and grill, right there next to the swamp tour. The food was pretty darn good!

I'd love to jump on the SOBs back. Go for a good old fashioned roll in the swamp! Been too long......thats what they called the freshman dorm anyway, back in the day.

Last night, as Panhead John posted, we ate at Mezcal Mexican Restaurant. I got the Broussard Choice as did PJ, Bill Purc, and CaptainMike.

This was a blend of meats and veggies with a sauce all cooked and served in an extremely hot Molcajete (45 minutes later and it was still too hot to touch). OMG, was this good! It would easily feed two people.

Today at Vermillionville Acadian Village we ate at their restaurant La Cuisine de Maman. Like Bill Purc , I got the special: Catfish Courtbouillon served with chicken and sausage gumbo, Maque Choux, fried shrimp, and a honey biscuit. I also had a beer brewed on site: Vermillionville Brewhouse Sackabilly Brew, a sweet potato beer. Everything was excellent. I tasted the bread pudding too and it was exquisite. This was a pleasant surprise and one of the better meals that I have had.

As most of you know, I’m pretty well known for my musical talents. After dinner tonight, the gang wanted me to perform one of my greatest song and dance routines that the world has ever known. I reluctantly agreed, as I generally don’t like to show off. Here I am in the hotel lobby.

I concur with Purc. Shrimp were cooked well,, but the grits were overwhelmed with a heavy cheese sauce layered on top.

I have never seen shrimp and grits that look like that. It is a simple dish: Shrimp and grits.
We had some at a reception one time that had like an etouffeé on top, which was also weird and not that good.

The aforementioned Cajun Table. I had the fried shrimp platter. The shrimp were good and had a nice seasoning on them, but they were fried in a cornmeal batter…..I prefer a breaded style batter. Okra was my side and they were average at best. They looked to have been cooked a little too long. No pics so I guess I’m really just lying to y’all…..🥸

At the Cajun Table with the group. Had the fried everything platter, fried ocra, appetizer of another fried shrimp crab cakes and a cup of chicken/sausage Gumbo. All shared with the group. The fried catfish was the best part of the meal. Lightly breaded and deep fried perfectly with the fish moist and flavorful.
