    Here we are at Laura's II, soul food restaurant. Others will post the group pics. I had the fried chicken, rice with gravy, seafood okra and corn maque choux.

      Wait, there are two Bobs? For those of us in the back of the class (and who rode the short bus to get here), who is the Bob in the back behind flyingpiglet and the opposite side of Uncle Bob's wife? Edit-- from research I assume it's TripleB 's brother, bobbbquen?

    The quality of the food was matched only by the hospitality of the owner and her staff! Seriously good folks!

    Smothered pork chops [3] rice and gravy, Mac and cheese and white beans. The beans were an absolute hit! Not only the best white beans I’ve ever had, probably some of the best beans I’ve ever had period. I mean, who goes on and on about beans?….these were that good. The pork chops, rice and gravy…A+ Mac and cheese was also very good! This place was a definite hit.

I told Madonna, the owner (the restaurant is named after her mother) who you see in the above group picture, that her food exceed our expectations. She graciously asked if she could take a group picture, Of course I said. A wonderful host.

      Below is a picture of the fried catfish Lee had, the fried pork chop I ordered along with delicious corn side and Mac and cheese. Another shot of the table for good measure.

      We’re having the most fun ever in a restaurant! Our waitresses and everyone else is a hoot! The best employees and experience I’ve had in a while.

          I didn't take any pictures at Laura's 2 or Bon Temps but the food at both was amazing!

          At Laura's I got the fried chicken, maque choux, and white beans. I agree with Panhead John, those white beans are incredible! So was everything else. Meals came with rice and gravy. This is a life changing experience: the gravy is spicy but when mixed with the rice its not too spicy. It was so good that I couldn't stop eating it. I never thought that rice and gravy could be so delicious.

          I planned ahead and got a to-go order of smothered pork chops with mac 'n cheese and red beans for lunch tomorrow after I return home.

          At Bon Temps Grill I bought two orders of Pepperjack Boudin Balls for the table, quite possibly the best boudin balls I've ever had.

          For the main course I ordered the Catfish Mon Dieu: fried catfish covered in crawfish etouffe. Excellent!


          My ranking of the restaurants for this Meat-Up are as follows:


          1. Laura's 2

          2. Mezcal Mexican Restaurant

          3. La Cuisine de Maman at Vermillionville*

          4. Bon Temps Grill*

          5. Cajun Table


          *These two really should be a tie but the bread pudding at La Cuisine de Maman was the tie breaker.

          **Madonna, owner of Laura's 2, was nominated for a James Beard Award

            Welcome to South Louisiana food that’s guaranteed to put on the freshman 15 if you move there. Dave, you should have some of that good food where you live because of all the folks who moved there from South Louisiana.

          To give a little context to our evening…..Yesterday I made a joke with one of the front desk ladies about using their airport shuttle van to give us a ride to dinner. Keep in mind these are only used to give rides to and from the airport for hotel guests. I had no idea she would actually agree to do this for us! 😳 So, tonight the Homewood Suites shuttle van took us to dinner at Bon Temps AND picked us up afterwards and returned us to the hotel. Naturally, knowing we could drink as much as we wanted and not worry about driving, we took advantage of the offer! The employees here are great!

            I concur. The Staff at Homewood Suites could not have been more gracious and accommodating.
            I am just now, tue am, able to enjoy this thread on my laptop n catch up.
            Not so enjoyable on an I-phone 10.
