Laissez les bons temps rouler…..Fall 2025 Cajun MeatUp Begins!

Well, we’re all in Lafayette now to begin our weekend of gluttony. We’ll be hitting up Mezcal Mexican Restaurant tonight to kick it off. I mean, who doesn’t come to Cajun Country for Mexican food? Anyway, I couldn’t wait to share with y’all my first meal of the day in Orange, Tx. for lunch….an $18.25 double meat with bacon cheeseburger courtesy of Whataburger! 😳 Ain’t kidding……..well, fries and a drink came with it, but still. 😳

I usually hit the Popeyes or Burger King in Jennings when I head home. BK is next to Walmart. Those two are not in the town I presently reside in.

texastweeter I don’t think it’s just “around here” there are two Popeyes relatively close and if I go (big if, my son loves Popeyes), I go to one in particular because the service is actually passable.

Piedra Y Mar @Mezcal. Excellent. Seared tilapia, shrimp, scallops, and octopus served over rice in a raging hot molcajete.

So they serve some of the food in molkajetes. Impressive. The restaurant's dishwashers must be ripped. JK. Nice presentation.

fzxdoc - yes, a number of us had dishes in molcajetes. Very dramatic and delicious.

Is anybody gonna visit PaulstheRibList ? Lake Charles doesn't look too out of the way for those from TX.

Panhead John - I10 passes through LC. I was thinking that could be a good stop on the way home if you take I10 to Houston.

Misunderstood you Ron. Yeah, a few of us passed right through Lake Charles on the way. I was too hungry to wait and wanted something fast, so I ate before hitting Lake Charles.

Do Lee’s chaperone duties include insuring TripleB gets to the correct airport on Sunday 😉?

I stayed back while everyone else went on the swamp or an old cajun village tour. Relaxing, napping and reading.

For lunch I went over to Chris' Poboy. It was highly recommended and did not disappoint. By the time I left (12:00pm), the place was packed.

I ordered a cup of chicken/sausage Gumbo, a cup of seafood Gumbo, and a 1/2 Poboy sandwich each of fried shrimp and roast beef with gravy. Gumbo's we're delicious, the shrimp poboy good and the roast beef poboy fantastic. And it was just a 5 min. walk from the motel. Wish Chris' was in my neighboorhood.

After tasting, I took the Gumbo and shrimp poboy back to the room.

Back home in New Orleans we judged roast beef poboys by how many napkins it took to eat them. We got them dressed (lettuce, tomato, mayo and pickles). TripleB in the picture it is hard to tell if yours was dressed.

Just Mayo and lettuce. No tomato. The pickle was a spear, on the side.

                      3 napkins were used.
