> Pit Barrel Cooker (gone to a new home)
> WeberQ 2000 (on "loan" to a relative (I'll never see it again))
> Old Smokey Electric (for chickens mostly - when it's too nasty out
to fiddle with a more capable cooker)
> Luhr Jensen Little Chief Electric - Top Loader circa 1990 (smoked fish & jerky)
> Thermoworks Smoke
> 3 Thermoworks Chef Alarms
> Thermoworks Thermapen One
> Thermoworks Thermapen Classic
> Thermoworks Thermopop
> Thermoworks Square DOT
> Thermoworks IR-GUN-S
> Joule Turbo Sous Vide Circulator
> Searzall torch
> BBQ Guru Rib Ring
> WÜSTHOF, Dalstrong, and Buck knives
> Paprika App on Mac and iOS
I’ll abstain for now. FWIW, the rest of this year is looking really unlikely for attending pretty much anything beyond what’s already on the calendar.

The MeatUps we’ve had have always been a blast no matter where they’ve been held. In reality, the most fun about these things was “who we were with”, just above… “where they were held”. Yeah, the food we had has always been great, but hanging out with each other made it even better! Anywho, long story short, I think we should close out the voting pretty soon, this Friday at noon should be plenty of time for us to decide. And damn, the voting is close, just one vote [as I write this] separates San Marcos and Lafayette! If you have an interest in attending the next MeatUp and haven’t voted yet, please vote ASAP. Thanks!

Well if it was during Aug. 23-30, I’d say Houston as I will be down there that week. Would love a Lafayette trip as I would love to experience Cajun food and can’t get here in PNW. But sadly probably wouldn’t be able to go.

Hate to say this Tami but…..there will never be an August MeatUp in Houston. 🥵
All the out of staters would be droppin’ like flies! 😂

Oh, Lake Conroe is nice! You’ll like it Tami. One thing about Texas and the South in general, EVERYWHERE has air conditioning. Except for your walk to and from the car, you’ll be good. While you’re there, here’s a couple of fun places you might want to hit up, they’re right on the lake. I’ve been to Papa’s On The Lake, it’s a cool place!
Established in 1996, Papa's on the Lake has been Lake Conroe's prime spot for fun and refreshments. With both land and water access, it offers an exclusive adult swimming pool, various table/backyard games, and live music on summer weekends. Guests can enjoy their favorite sports game, alongside food and beverages. Discover the unique experience Papa's on the Lake offers!

Alrighty folks, The People have spoked, er speaked, er spoken! Lafayette it is then!

As I mentioned a few days ago, we were going to close the voting as of noon today. Hopefully 2 weeks was enough time for everyone to get their vote in. We try to schedule the MeatUps far away from summer, in anticipation of cooler weather. The last weekend of October, Halloween falls on a Friday. We probably don’t want to have it then, so I’m thinking the previous weekend of Thursday October 23 thru Sunday the 26th would be the ideal weekend for us. This is the weekend I’d like to schedule it for, but…..if you want to go and can’t make it that weekend please let me know! We always try to accommodate people when possible.
We’ve only held one MeatUp in Lafayette and we didn’t even scratch the surface for great Cajun restaurants! If you want to go and have any recommendations for restaurants or attractions to visit, post em here and let us know. I’ll post a link to our previous MeatUp in Lafayette in case you’d like to get an idea of the fun we had!
Don’t be fooled by cheap imitations….this is the official post! Anyway, as David mentioned we were supposed to meet at the rest stop just inside Louisiana. Those plans went to hell. Anyway, I left Houston at 8 am headed to Louisiana. Typical early morning traffic…… About 5 miles from the La. border we hit this on

Are y'all coming back to Lafayette?!? I went to the last meet up page and it looks like you hit Avery Island, Prejean's, La Pagua, Poor Boys Riverside Inn, and Prejean's. Hopefully I can join in this time - we have been planning to move up north but I'm not sure if we'll be out of town by late October. That's a pretty good time of year to visit, weather-wise.

Hey Beefchop ….yeah, we’ll be in your hometown for the next one! Hopefully you can join us for a while. We’d love to meet up with you if possible. You got a few recommendations for some good Cajun food we ain’t hit yet?

Panhead John Bon Temps Grill, Olde Tyme Grocery or Pop's for an awesome po-boy sandwich, Dwyer's Cafe (for lunch, the lunch plates are always good, just a heap of home cooking/comfort food, the menu rotates daily), Johnson's Boucanière (another lunch spot for Cajun BBQ, they smoke their own meats onsite), Borden's for a chocolate or vanilla malted, Ricky Meche's Donut King for a chocolate covered Bavarian or Cream Cheese filled eclair donut (get there early), Zea Rotisserie & Bar

IMPORTANT CAJUN MEATUP UPDATES!
At the Cajun MeatUp last time, we stayed at The Homewood Suites in Lafayette. I’d like to book them again for October if possible. The place was nice and had all the amenities we look for in a hotel, including a kitchenette with a full size refrigerator/freezer in each room, indoor and outdoor seating areas and……is only about 1 mile from The Lafayette Regional Airport for anyone who might be flying in. There’s also a major airport in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, although they’re a bit of a drive. Baton Rouge is about an hour’s drive from Lafayette, New Orleans is about 2 hours. They also gave us a special rate of $119. per night last time! I don’t know if I can get the same rate or not, it was almost 2 years ago, and I haven’t called them yet. I’d like to call them by the end of next week because there’s lots of festivals in Louisiana in October….wanna make sure they’d have some rooms to block off for us.
As mentioned, I’d like to have this the next to last weekend in October….Thursday 10/23 thru Sunday 10/26….IF YOU’D LIKE TO GO BUT CAN’T MAKE THAT WEEKEND, please let me know ASAP. In addition to excellent Cajun food, there’s also a lot of fun and neat things to do in and around Lafayette! I realize this might seem a little early to start planning, but it’s really not, getting the right hotel requires several months of lead time. Anywho, I’ll be posting links to some restaurants and activities for y’all to ponder……
Who all might be going? Let us know!
