Where To Hold the Next MeatUp? POLL

The hardest part of doing these MeatUps, for me anyway, is deciding where to have it. I’ve had a blast at every single one, as well as eating some damn good food, no matter where it was held. It might seem a little early but I’d like to ask you guys your thoughts and preferences. The next one will be in mid to late October. Where you might ask? That’s up to y’all. The choices are going to be San Marcos, Spring/Houston and Lafayette, La. Each of these locations we’ve been to before, and any one of them would be an excellent choice, I’ll be happy with wherever we decide. If you’re even thinking about maybe attending the next one, go ahead and vote… please. Also, after you vote, give us the reasons why you’d like to have it in that particular place, your thoughts might help others decide on where they’d like to go. Don’t be shy, ain’t nobody gonna get hurt feelin’s in this place….🥸

    Why we should choose Spring/Houston
Not far for me to drive…..😂 🤣 In addition to several great BBQ spots within 30 minutes, Truth BBQ ranked #9 on The List, there’s also a ton of awesome Tex-Mex! We had the best Tex-Mex of any of our MeatUps right near the hotel. Our hotel was great and we had a really groovy rate of $119. per night. 😎

Why we should choose San Marcos
Close to the Burnt Bean….😋 Close to Lockhart with several great spots in town, it’s the BBQ Capital of Texas. Close to Austin, who mopped the floor with BBQ joints in the Texas Monthly Top 50.

    Why we should choose Lafayette
Sometimes we just get a little tired of BBQ. Lafayette has some of the best Cajun food you’ll find anywhere! Not only that, we had a blast last time on the Swamp Tour! Got up close and personal with the alligators. In addition to some of the best seafood you’ll find, there’s also a lot of attractions in town which are fun to visit.

You can close the voting now 100% are for S/H.

I probably won't be able to make it, but I'd like to go somewhere I haven't been.

I chose SM so we could both be outliers.

Nope. I am hell bent on making this one. I can get BBQ, i want Cajun, which is about the only food I can't get all over here. Lafayette gets my vote.

I guess I just tied it up with San Marcos because that increases my slim chances of making it again.

I voted Lafayette. I can’t get Cajun food here. Besides, I’ve been to Texas a bunch of times, but never to Louisiana. Now I just have to sell my wife on back-to-back trips. Late Sept/early Oct. are multiple grandkids’ b’days in Chicago. So that’s happening.

texastweeter Adam she likes her wine, but it needs to be a really nice bottle of tequila. Just need to figure out the entry fee for her tequila wishes, for everyone to cook and clean for me, that’s free, I’ll even let them bring the ingredients! 😄

The Meat Up and a Bourbon Trail crawl could be combined by holding it in Louisville. (As heretical as it sounds, you can find good food outside of Texas.)

I don’t like to travel these dsys so to me the best place would be my back yard.

          Pros:
-It’s a big yard. Plenty of room for tents.
-I have 9 cookers. We could all cook something.
          -The brats here are great.
          Cons:
-The weather in late October is already starting to be bad.
-There is NO good bbq here in Milwaukee
-There is NO good Cajun in Milwaukee.
-In fact, other than the brats, there is NO notable cuisine here in Milwaukee.
-There is really nothing fun or exciting to do here in Milwaukee.
-My wife’s family are mostly cops. So PJ couldn’t attend.
-Oh, and speaking of the wifey, she’d never allow all those tents in the back yard.

          Wait…… Why do I live here? 🤔
          Forget it. Bad idea. 👎🙄

But the Brewers would be eliminated from the postseason, so we wouldn't have to worry about them being a distraction. Wait, hold on, that didn't come out right.....

I picked San Marcos, mostly because both times we’ve been there, we’ve ignored San Antonio. There are quite a few places there worth visiting.

Otherwise, it doesn’t matter to me. I don’t eat seafood, but I could go with sausage, chicken, beef, pork, etc. My cousin lives in Lafayette, he was the stage manager for the Cajun Dome and still works freelance, setting up stages and events around Louisiana. He knows everyone from Mick Jagger to Taylor Swift, plus studio wrestlers, rap moguls, NBA and NFL guys (he’s worked on the Super Bowl halftime and NCAA finals), all those people. He parties kinda hard, though. Even for being old. That’s not my style any more. But we had some hella times 40-50 years ago!

I could probably make anywhere. But this time it’s going to depend on finances. The market swings have hit us pretty hard.

I voted for San Marcos. A couple breakfasts at Burnt Bean and trips to Lockhart, Austin, or San Antonio, and I’m good.

I still have San Marcos programmed in my trucks nav system. I want to go to Burnt Bean and a return trip to Lockhart. Other than that I’ll be there for the people. If you like chatting with the folks here you’ll love them in person, even Panhead John. The pizza and conversation at the end of the day were worth the trip.

texastweeter Thank you for your kind offer! I need to get miss Terri situated either staying where we are or buy something and watch her make it what she wants. I will build a bigger shop this time if we move. It’s still early summer hopefully there will be more inventory soon.

Been to San Marcos and it was great. Fond memories and great BBQ, but been there. If I opted for Houston, it would be more for seafood than BBQ. I've been hankering on going to Southern Louisiana. Going to Lafayette, for me, is more than just Cajun cooking. It is about the experiencing the heritage, environment, entertainment and just a way of life that there is no way to experience in Los Angeles. Hoping Lafayette in Southern Louisiana is chosen.
