As per tradition, we had Mexican food our first night in town…Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant.

I had the fajita plate, except for the crappy tasting charro beans, it was all really good!

KG. Everyone had left Austin, and I was taking the photos of Interstellar’s pits when the Pit Boss came over and we started talking. He asked where else we were thinking of going in Austin, and I told him that I was pretty well stuffed but “Leroy & Lewis and KG.” And he gave huge praise to both, but also said “If you’re in Austin, you have to try KG.” Since it was only 10 minutes out of the way on the ride home (plus 20 minutes to order and get the food), I stopped at KG:

I ordered a brisket shawarma pita, that came with baladi salad and tahini, and got it to go. Excellent. Back at the hotel we cut in into sections and shared:

We are meeting at 9:30 this morning in the lobby of the hotel (in San Marcos), planning on arriving at Burnt Bean in Seguin around 10:30. If you’re coming from Austin, just head to Seguin and meet us there at 10:30!

FIRST CATASTROPHE OF THE FALL MEATUP !!!!

Panhead John , according to eye witnesses, was so anxious to be first in line at the Burnt Bean BBQ that he darted across the highway without looking for oncoming traffic. The BMW skidded 30 feet before he jumped to safety. Upon landing he severely injured his leg and cell phone trying to avoid the impact. captainlee being extensively trained in trauma first aid immediately removed his belt to apply a tourniquet around his neck to stop the severe bleeding. Luckily somebody screamed "Don't do that we need him to organize the next MeatUp" The tourniquet was removed just in time. Don't look at the photos if you can't handle gruesome pictures.

I’m lucky to be alive. Some people compared it to war time injuries.

The Burnt Bean has become one of my top 2 favorite BBQ spots. Not just for the food, but because of the “experience” several of us had there today. No less than 3 times did someone come by our table asking how everything was, can I get you anything?….etc. Twice today one of the owners, Ernest, walked completely around our table, taking time to check on us and chat with us, if we wanted to. Everyone, from the cashier to the owners, were just so damn friendly and likeable. The only way I knew one of them was an owner is because I asked. Both of the owners were just working and walking around like just a regular ol’ employee. While in line ordering and after paying, I jokingly asked..”since I just spent so much money here, 😉 is there any way I can get a free burnt end?” The meat cutter said “here ya go, this is our last one”. I honestly didn’t expect that, but damn, it was a big ol’ burnt end and absolutely delicious!

After lunch several of us went back to the pits and admired their two 1,000 gallon offsets, as well as a rotisserie smoker. While there we chatted up one of the workers there named David. After about 5 minutes of talking about all things BBQ, I asked if he was one of the owners and darned if he didn’t say yes. He spent at least 20 minutes just talking with us like we were old friends. Hell of a nice guy.

Per the posted pool sign regarding the 2 week waiting period on diarrhea, Tom was the only one the hotel allowed to go swimming.

At The Burnt Bean they had a new sausage of theirs called the El Cinco, not sure what was in it, but it was excellent! There was a general consensus among the group that everything they serve is very good to excellent. Outstanding sides to compliment their stellar meats. I’m sure there’ll be more folks chiming in later.

I had a slice of brisket, pork rib and sausage…

The unwritten rule for Texas BBQ as I remember it is that no matter how good a brisket is, the answer is always “not bad, but mine is better.” Or some variation of that. Glad to see you upholding the code, PJ! 🤣🤣

Pork ribs, brisket and sausage at Burnt Bean. Street corn corn pudding (yum), potatoes, Mac and cheese and beans for sides. It was all very good. No, I didn't eat this all myself. I split it with my wife.

My Burnt Bean meal. Brisket, the El Cinco sausage, turkey, street corn pudding, cheeto Mac n cheese. A brisket taco on the side. Excellent all around. The street corn pudding was a highlight among highlights. I saw a house for sale around the corner; I told the owner David I wanted to buy it and eat there daily. I love this place.
