Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I’m bringing the real camera, I want to get used to using it, and get back in the habit of taking shots. I’ll be coming down I-81 through Virginia, that is beautiful country. Maybe bring a landscape lens.
Also, I made a list of possible lunch stops, and I’m going to hit up Schaffer’s BBQ Market, it has a strong following. I will definitely grab some photos there.
Also, I remembered to print my ticket for the BBQ festival Sunday! That was a close near-forget.
I considered bringing the real camera, but it's for my wifes work and if I broke it while we're drinking I'd best just go home with one of y'all... and nobody wants that

Out of curiosity, were they morons WITH man buns or BECAUSE of man buns? Be careful how you answer that. It could effect the condition of your accommodations at the Hampton.

I stopped for lunch just outside of Baton Rouge in a little place called Denham Springs. I was just driving around looking for somewhere to eat. I’d been on the road for almost 5 hours and just wanted to get out of the damn truck. Pulled into the first place that looked decent. Found a little place called Hwy 55 Burgers Shakes and Fries. The shrimp po boy with fries looked pretty decent, hadn’t had one in a few years. It was……ok I guess. Wasn’t anything like you’d get in New Orleans, but I wasn’t expecting it either. I gave it a C.
I don’t think much of it was authentic, except it did have lettuce and tomatoes. Shrimp were obviously frozen from a bag and it wasn’t an authentic French roll. I don’t know what the white sauce was that was drizzled on it 🧐
Panhead John if you are goin through New Orleans you really should stop at s the iconic Parkway Bakery and get a Roast Beef Poboy. It is my standard for a Roast Beef Poboy. Of course that are lots of places with authentic bread and properly dressed Poboy. The bread makes the poboy and almost anything you put one it tastes great. Unfortunately my favorite Hot Sausage Poboy place went up for sale and I am afraid it is closed.
That "sandwhich" looks like some fried deep-fried confection with a light sugar glaze you'd get at a State Fair. I stared at it for a full minute, trying to figure out what it exactly was and why you were consuming a sugar bomb for lunch.
Halfway between Lafayette and Baton Rouge lies the Atchafalaya River Basin. I-10 crosses over the basin and the bridge is 18.2 miles long, the 3rd longest bridge in the United States and 13th longest in the world. I snapped a few pics as I crossed. It’s a lot prettier in person than my 70 mph pics show…..
I've driven over that bridge many times. Back in the '90s, I lived in Houston a few years, and most of my family was still in Tenn where I grew up. I drove I-10 a lot. I always thought it looked prehistoric, like a dinosaur might poke it's head out anytime.

"Maybe a few of these pics might entice a few folks to attend a possible October Louisiana Cajun MeatUp…..in Lafayette."
I gotta admit that Lafayette is tempting (flashback to more than a few months spent there back in the '90s). But damn, that's a hellova drive ... (maybe CaptainMike could loan me TWFTD?) ...
When are you gonna get off your lazy ass and attend one you grouchy old bastard! 😉And don’t give me that crap about a long drive. 😵💫 Captain Mike is doing it again, more miles than anyone has done! …..and I’m doing 1,100 miles….one way. 😳

PJ and I may have discussed a place that is about 45min from the Baton Rouge airport that would be a good home base for an extended 4 day weekend. Trying to see if there is something similar on the other side of the swamp where there are more swamp related activities.
Actually, I just had some of the best chicken wings I’ve ever had! I asked the front desk girl…[who was hittin on me big time by the way!] if there was a Popeyes nearby. There was one a few miles away but it sounded confusing how to get there, didn’t wanna mess with that. Right around the corner was a chicken place called Zaxby’s, they only sell wings and chicken strips. I wanted to pick up my food to go, before I was gonna have a few beers. I don’t drink and drive. So I got back to my room at 5 with my order to go. They sat around for 2 hours before I reheated them in the microwave. I wasn’t expecting too much, especially the fries. Wow! These wings were killer! I ordered the 2nd spiciest offering they had out of 5. They gave me some of their Ranch dip to go with it. The pics of the bare bones aren’t too appetizing I know, but after eating a few of them I just wanted to share a few pics. This place is a mini chain with 3 locations in Biloxi. Honestly I could have eaten double the 10 piece I ordered.
