MCS For the Last Time......I swear

Merry Early Christmas to Me!!! So this just got delivered today. Workhorse Pits 1969 stick burner. I've already gotten a couple of wood racks and found a wood guy. Should be getting 1/2 Rick of hickory and 1/2 Rick of white oak with a little cherry on top within the next week. Any special tools I need to consider with managing a live fire of this nature? I've already got a Sear Pro torch on the list. Also have a short handle shovel around here somewhere. Maybe one of those scissor style log handlers?

Welcome to the club. Number one objective: maintain a good coal bed throughout the cook.

You're right, but with 6 cookers on the patio now, the next one will require one of them to go first, otherwise it will be me that the Mrs says needs to go....

sclawrence2013 I buy sticks 3x3x8 for my smaller OKJ offset, and if I need to break them down for smaller splits, I use a manual splitter similar to this one below. Can't remember the exact model that I have. That and a hand sledge gets the job done. I watched a Tuffy Stone video once and he was using something like this.
Also, you'll want a metal ash container to store the spent coals in to ensure that they are indeed dead.

Ace Great idea on the splitter. Thank you. I have a galvanized ash bucket laying around somewhere. Time to dig that out too.
