Yeah, I never remember what the water should be in grams...at least the amounts are small enough to not use stones.

Jerod Broussard - I use grams and oz all the time. 2 g Assam black tea leafs to 8 oz water for iced tea - 22 g coffee grounds to 12 oz water...

I reach in the refrigerator, grab the aluminum can, pop the top, and enjoy a nice cold soda. who needs coffee?

BUT... HWMO roasts his own green beans to his exact preference, then grinds them in a Kitchen Aid adjustable grinder I bought him for Father's day about 15 years ago, and brews by the cup with the AeroPress. he did a LOT of experimenting, reading and tasting and decided the Aeropress was not only the least expensive way, but made the best cup of coffee, hot or cold.

I use the same grinder, and my wife drinks soda exclusively! LOL The original burrs in the kitchen aid aren't very good these days (mine isn't that old) , and I was able to find a conversion kit to let put me put a set of Mazzer burrs in.

Used to be a French Press, but decided to try an Espresso Machine. Love the machine !! I like it with steamed half n half, or sometimes just a shot of Flor De Cana Rum, sometimes just black.. Depends on how I'm feeling

Since we're prepping to open a coffee shop, we're testing out all kinds of methods. I too roast coffee and soon as samples start coming in from suppliers, I"ll be testing out different beans with different roasts.

Typically - if I'm working at home, I'll either make a french press pot and sit with it at my desk Or I'll have some "instant" made with Jiva coffee cubes (they are awesome!). At work, since I dont' have a dedicated desk, I can't keep a french press here so make do with WaWa or whatever is on hand.

In the evening, we'll have lattes. BF takes pride in his pull and is looking forward to playing with the new espresso machine for the shop. He's actually managed to pull chocolate notes from the Colombian. I was impressed.

If you're willing to source them, I'd love to pick up a couple of pounds of green from ya, from time to time. there's really no place to get them in ChattaVegas

MBMorgan - thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately their warehouse is in the Bay Area and lm east coast. I've been looking to NY/NJ wholesalers.

@Karon - Sure. I know how hard it can be to source decent beans.

Argoboy - the metal filter also makes it easier to push the plunger, but I would suggest pouring the hot water down the side of the Aeropress to prevent the water from going straight through.

or you can use the current meta and invert the aeropress. No way for water to go through until you're ready.

My new Areopress arrived in the mail today, tomorrow morning I will try it out and let you know. I usually use dark roast fine grind coffee. I only drink one cup of coffe a day and I like it to be strong.

That's what I do - one cup a day, but very strong. A mild warning though - a fine grind may be hard to press through the filter. Don't forget to stir with the included stirrer. Sometimes the coffer will clump and you need to stir to break it up so that all the grounds get extracted.

I used my press this morning and it made a nice strong cup of coffee, I used the up side brew method that I saw onYou Tube, I stirred the grounds and let them set for 3 minutes, no issues pressing it through the filter but I'm working with one data point so far.

I'm glad it worked well for you Argoboy. When I tried the 3 min brew, it got bitter, so I don't do that.

Stirring before pressing helps with the pressing. If you let it sit, the grounds start to "clump" and can make it a little harder to press.

Another thought Argoboy - the Aeropress also makes great iced tea using the same method you used for coffee. 2 g of Assam black tea to 8 oz of water is perfect for iced tea, and you will never go back to tea bags.

Went to a coffee and tea expo over the weekend. There were 3 free seminars: Magic of Matcha (meh); Tea and the American Revolution (very interesting!), and Single Cup Coffee Methods.

The speaker focused on 4 methods: Vacuum, Aeropress, Clever Dripper/Pour Over, and Eva Solo.

I had seen vacuum pots but not one in action before. He set it up at the start of the talk and it was just finishing up when he concluded. While it was doing its thing, one of the people I was with commented that there was a leak because coffee was going into the bottom pot. "It's supposed to do that," I whispered back.

I was keen to see the Aeropress. I've heard raves about it here and on Coffee forums. Very intriguing. Abom - he also suggested that you prep it upside down so that the grounds can soak for the proper time. I'm just not sure about adding water to dilute - I had an americano once and didn't care for it (though I'm willing to admit it may have been because it was diluted espresso).

The Clever Dripper will be added to my collection. It's basically a pour over setup that has a plunger in the bottom so that the coffee can soak and then be released into the cup, rather than dripping as you go. Liked that one and I think the bosses are getting them for the shop.

The Eva Solo was nice to look at but not impressive. It's a fancy blown carafe with a neoprene sleeve. You add the coffee and water to the carafe and then when ready to pour, attach the filter. This didn't impress me because the filter clogged when he was pouring. And, at almost US$200, it's a bit pricey for my taste.

I may need to add an aeropress to my Amazon wish list. It may be compact enough I can carry it in my computer bag (we have to reserve our desks every day and you can't always get the same desk). I'd rather a french press, but I'll break that too easily.

At this show I also bought a Bodum version of a Chemex. It was about half the price of a real Chemex, so when it breaks, I won't be as upset. LOL Haven't played with that yet.
