I can’t say the benefits of the SnS, but I have been smoking on a Weber Performer for 4 years and I smoke my turkeys every year without the spatchcock method and they have turned out amazing every time. I am planning on getting one eventually, but I have the snake method down and, even in the Minnesota cold, the Weber does a great job of holding heat.

Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
To reiterate what others have written, the charcoal baskets do different things than the S&S does. I use mine for rotisserie. The S&S is for 2 zone, for smoking, and for conserving charcoal (grilling over it).
Oh: the removable center section is a waste, IMO.

Generally, when you are asking this, it is because you want to be talked out of it........
This is not the place for that!
MCS is infectious and as soon as you take the plunge into The Pit. You are doomed, my friend.
.......Now you just have to decide on how fast you want it. 2-day or next day air! LOL

I've been retired for going on 9 years and I don't have the $$ to spend foolishly like I used to. I try to learn all I can about any product before I take the plunge. It helps me make an informed decision. I wanted to know if the extra $99 would be worth it. After all the help from those who responded with their personal experience (and for which I thank them) I now think it will be worth it.

Yeah, I figgered you were but for some reason I felt the need to defend myself. After all of the great reviews here I am going to pull the trigger on the SnS (SWMBO is getting me the kettle for Christmas). I also expect to have the vortex before long. Now that's MCS.

I don't have a Weber kettle but if and when I do get one, there will be an SnS to go with it. It isn't just the rave reviews that would make me get one either. The SnS is the kind of thing that when I look at it my mind screams "that's gonna work like a dream" for techie reasons and I'm a sucker for simple ideas executed really well.
On a side note I did a 15 lb bird on my Davy Crockett this year and it turned out great. I started out with a normal spatchcock and felt it was a little tight too so I separated the thighs and rotated them just a bit then everything fit easy.

Brewmaster , What kind of grill would you need for a frog’s butt?
And does one really need an SnS for a frog butt? Huh?Last edited by FireMan; November 26, 2018, 05:45 PM.

Depends on what you have available. I have a BW Chubby G2 that I use for low and slow smoking. I use the kettle primarily for grilling and rotisserie cooks, or any cook requiring a high temp. I have the SnS but for my uses, don't see a lot of value in it over the baskets. If I only had a Kettle, then I would definitely get the SnS.
