    22" Weber Kettle LiD

Just used the new kettle for Super Bowl to make Meatheads Char Siu ribs. Is it me or does the lid fit extremely poorly on the bottom half of the kettle? Feel like it doesn't really sit on the lip and the slightest touch it is off kilter. I have seen people use binder clips to hold but really feel like it should fit a little better and yeah I get it was only $149 but still. FYI that char siu rib recipe is spot on!

If you call Weber I'm sure they will take care of you.

In the meantime the lid may be a bit out of round and can be gently tweaked for a better fit.

My kettle top takes a little wiggling to get it to go on all the way. But the wind has knocked it around a few times when it was off and I was distracted by oh just about anything else. Weber does have great service though whether you email or call. Worth a shot.

Mine has a certain spot where it seems to fit better and after awhile you'll build of a nice layer of soot on it that will help with the sealing.

I'll second that. After you get that soot developed it usually fits nice and snug from thereon out.

Same. Took about 4 or 5 cooks to get a good layer of gunk formed. Now - the lid sticks real nice.

Feels slightly out of round. I'll mess with it a little and give it a few more cooks, and resort to a call to Weber if I can't get this thing sitting better.

        thanks

There are several high temperature resistant bbq lid gaskets available on Amazon. I bought this 1 last summer and it was a big improvement...

gmascolo51 be patient, wait for gunk or call Weber, but be patient. Importance is cook, taste, happiness, & fun. 🕶

Set the lid on a hard surface and see if it's touching the ground all the way around. If it isn't, you might be able to put some pressure on it and get it down, or put some weight on it overnight.

Once it's level, it will seal a lot better.

Something to try before calling Weber or resorting to adding gaskets around the unit.

              Best regards,
              Jim

The lids on my 3 kettles can all be wiggled a bit but overall seem to fit pretty well.

As jgg85234 said, a hard flat surface can help you test the lid for roundness. My garage floor works well for this. If it wobbles at all on the garage floor, I just keep bending it slightly until it sits flat. You may have to do this with the bottom section if it still doesn't seal.

I've got a 2007 Weber Performer and the lid fits perfectly in all orientations. I've got a 1997 old style kettle that has ONE orientation where the lid will actually sit right, which I attribute to it being an old kettle my mother in law was going to throw out, and which I rescued. The lid or the bowl is probably slightly out of round.

So I just went outside and put the lid on the granite BBQ Island and the lid is not touching the granite on both the sides where the thermometer and vents are located. If you press down on it those sides the lid touches the granite. I'll have to try and tweek it a little I guess.

Great! Now all you do is take the sides that don't touch the counter top and press them toward each other. Done.

Noticed mine didn't sit flat on the garage floor when I first bought it. Gave the lid a big hug and it was much closer. Left 120lbs of sand bags on it over night and it finally sat flat. Combine that with what SoCalTim mentioned( a few cooks to get some junk built up) and you should be good to go.

Sounds like if you pushed IN on the two sides that are up it would bring them down and bring things in round. That said, if you cannot get it, just call Weber. I'll bet they send you a new lid.
