Is it worth getting the S&S for my kettle if I also have the PBC?

Just curious if the S&S is worth it if I do my long cooks on the PBC. Have been mainly using the kettle for wings and apps. Sold my Webber bullet when I got the PBC a while back but like the idea of actually smoking on my kettle. BTW I am addicted to this site...Thx Meathead!!!

Welcome Mur7555 to me the Weber kettle isn't complete without the SnS. It takes the kettle to a all new level.

I have a WSM and a kettle with a SnS. The kettle SnS combo is a real winner and gives me great flexibility. I find it faster and easier to use the kettle/SnS combo. And the kettle SnS uses a lot less fuel.

I use the WSM now only for larger cooks. When cooking just a normal meal I use the kettle/SnS. Unless there is a blizzard. Then I run them both. Because I can.

It's hard to believe until you use it, but I'm guessing you'll use your kettle SnS a lot more than you think. I do.

Mur7555, welcome to the Pit! I do not have a PBC, but I say +1 on what DWCowles said! The SnS is awesome for reverse searing steaks, does a great job at hot and fast indirect cooking, and will turn out some very fine pork butts with about 1.5 chimneys of KBB, more or less, depending on the weather. For the very small investment in the SnS, I say you can't go wrong. It has completely changed the way I look at my kettle. My gasser has been gathering cobwebs since I got my SnS.

P.S. I would also consider a Vortex for my kettle.

        Short answer: Absolutely.

Keep in mind the 'sear' aspect of the Slow n Sear. It does a lot more than simply turning your kettle into a smoker. It's optimal for 2-zone cooking which is what we do in kettles most of the time.

For those times when you only need to do a light amount of food, like one or two racks of ribs or a pork butt or two, etc, the SnS allows you to smoke all day (8-10 hrs) on a single chimney of charcoal (instead of a bag). Over time the SnS would save you a lot of charcoal in such instances.

Mur7555 YUP. I am with DWCowles , A kettle isn't complete with out one. Keep the PBC but get the SNS. You will use both. I have both and use both. Nothing wrong with having more than one smoker. Maybe thats just me being in denial of my affliction/addiction.

I literally just hit the purchase button on the SnS. I also have a PBC and I love it and will continue to use it for larger cooks or larger proteins like turkeys. I am new to the kettle world, I only got my kettle on fathers day but I love it so far and really see the value in the SnS. As Spinaker mentions addiction, this also has to do with my Gear Acquisition Syndrome(GAS) as it relates to my backpacking/fishing/hunting hobbies and more specifically my More Cooker Syndrome(MCS) as it relates to outdoor cooking/BBQ. I just cant help myself, I dont know how to stop!!

Guest The Auber was for the kettle so I could do some over night cooks and sleep. Then I realized it could negate the temp killing stall in the PBC and I wouldn't have to get up to get the temps back up. FYI- I didn't get another Auber for the PBC

Congrats. You will love it. Forewarning: The sear zone is nuclear hot. I was amazed at how hot it is when I first used it. Very cool.

Mur7555 Congrats on your new tool/toy! Here's a tip- when it's time to sear, especially if you're cooking multiple pieces of meat on the indirect side, simply spin your grate with tongs to put said meat over the coals. ABCbarbecue.com has several of the main BBQ meat recipe/techniques laid out, as well as recommended lighting procedures for each, be sure to check them out.

Spin the grate? Now why did I not see that. Great idea.

I've always been of the mindset that one should have the maximum versatility one can have. As I've seen above, you ordered the S&S.I think you made the right choice.

I have a PBC... huge fan.

I'm also a die hard Weber kettle guy. I have a SnS that resides in my kettle... I use it on every cook with the kettle.

Truth is.. my Weber is just a better tool when used with the SnS. I feel that I've got the perfect combination with my set up of the Weber and the PBC...

Get yourself a SnS... I can't imagine that you would regret it...

Woo hoo! It's hard to beat a good rack o' ribs...but if you're feeding a crowd you can do quite a bit of pork butt on it.
