Smokin-It 3D
Weber Kettle with an SNS
Masterbuilt kettle that I call the $30 wonder grill
Bullet by Bull Grills gasser
Anova WiFi sous vide machine
Thermoworks Thermapen and Chef Alarm
I’ll mention something that is not one of the two types you are seeking, but given there are number of people on the message board for Smokin-It smokers that use the #1 sized smoker for camping. Small, pretty easy to move and travel with.
It’s not a charcoal or pellet, but just so you can look at options I thought I’d mention it - and assuming you have electric connection since you mentioned a pellet grill. I have a larger size, #3D and really enjoy the ease of use and the great cooks.
Let me know if you have any questions on it. Enjoy the hunt for your cooker!

SnS 22" kettle, 22" WSM with Pit Viper, 36" LSG pellet pooper
24" Blackstone griddle, 6 Gallon Cajun Fryer.
50K BTU wok burner.
Smoke Daddy has a portable version out now too. Tom Horsman did a couple of reviews on it over at YouTube. I have no first hand experience with it.Last edited by WI Bubba; March 16, 2022, 11:57 PM.

Kamado Joe Big Joe III, PKGO, PK300, Jumbo Joe and PBC. Weber kettle @ the hunting camp.
Another vote for the Jumbo Joe with SnS or just use a Weber charcoal basket. I was able to acquire a Weber table years ago before they were discontinued and prices went crazy high. To me, the Weber JJ and table are the perfect travel setup. As much as I like my pellet grill, I’m always concerned about reliable power when traveling. But I guess if you’re RV’ing, that’s not a problem.

So, @CapitanMike, have you made a decision. Let us know when you decide. We are all curious and would love to hear an update as to how it worked out in reality.

22" Weber Kettle w/SNS, 18" WSM, Bronco, Grilla Chimp, Traeger Tailgater, UDS, Camp Chef Tahoe Stove.
The only thing about the Chimp Cap is that it doesn't fit too well in the RV basement. If I turn it on its back and shoehorn it in there it works, but I don't want to travel with it like that. So I put it in the tow vehicle. The Treager Tailgater is a better fit, but I couldn't get mine to run below 325-350. The Smoke Daddy looks like a nice machine that would fit in the basement.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the SmokeDaddy.

CaptainMike this site has conditioned me such that one cooking device is never enough. So in addition to the Chimp and the camp chef stove, I will probably start hauling the wsm. This is a sickness, especially since I am traveling alone lol

If you haven't bought yet, I would suggest the Chimp for your needs. We have had ours for a year or so and it is the best pellet cooker I have had. My others were 2 Traegers and a Camp Chef. The Chimp is so reliable and holds temp so well and doesn't burn a ton of pellets. Folks think it is small but I've cooked briskets on it as large as 18 lbs.
I cannot speak re customer service that everyone raves about as I have not needed and service.
Good luck on whatever you choose!

Backyard Jambo, T1000 Woodmaster, MAK 2 star, 14" & 22" WSM, 2x 22" Weber Kettle, Stoven, Hot Box Grill, Hasty Bake Ranger, RecTeq Bullseye, GMG Davy Crockett; Original Grilla and others I'm not remembering!
I took a little trip to Louisiana and cooked for about 40 people for Friday night potluck. Took the offset, GMG Davy and Jumbo Joe. Forgot the cord too the Davy! The traveling Travato repairman wired a permanent wire pulling Power from the house batteries. It worked great! I removed the carry legs off the Davy, so I set it up on a table. It was the designated chicken cooker. Cooked 4 chickens, a brisket, pork belly burnt ends, sausages, ribs and shrimps! The Jumbo Joe did steaks, pork steaks and asparagus. It was an awesome feed!
I don’t have a basement in the van, so Joe and Davy travel inside, offset on the hitch of course. There’s a nice carry case for the smaller Joe, but not a good one for Jumbo. I cleaned both before stowing.
For me weight is a big concern. Davy is close to 60 lbs and is hard to maneuver. I think the Chimp is heavier. I’m looking at the Trek because Davy’s spring feet are not good. I will follow this thread!

Well, the decision has been made. Wow, what a great response and thank you everyone for your excellent suggestions! I was leaning towards the Chimp and the JJ until WI Bubba dropped the Smoke Daddy Pellet Pro Sidekick suggestion. I opted for that and will pick up a JJ for those charcoal cooks as well.
But wait, there's a fun story to go with the purchase! After watching the reviews and following the link that willxfmr shared I made my decision. However, the Sidekick was currently out of stock so last Thursday I shot SD an email enquiring when the units would be available. On Friday afternoon I opened my email and saw that I had a PM from my good buddy Jerry, whom you all know as smokenoob . Well, it seems Noob's interest was piqued as well but he picked up the phone, called SD directly and spoke to the owner Dan. Well, 'ol Dan confirmed that they were indeed out of stock re: the Sidekicks, but he did have a demo and a twice-used unit he would sell at a discount. Jerry wisely grabbed the demo and then promptly shot me a PM informing me of the other available unit.
SD was closed for the weekend by the time I saw Jerry's PM, but I called them first thing yesterday morning and got right through to Dan. First off, Dan was a truly nice man and we had a very pleasant conversation. He is a member of the Pitmaster Club, though not an active one. He said the "used" cooker was in great condition and has all of the accessories that comes with a new unit, but with a very generous discount. I joked with him that since it was pre-seasoned he should have went the other way with the pricing! So we made a deal then said our goodbyes. About 5 minutes later I get a purchase confirmation email and about 10 minutes after that I get a shipping confirmation that stated it will be here Friday. Wow, how's that for quick, friendly service!!!
I'll share pics and first impressions after I give it a go and I hope Jerry will too. Thanks again for all of your great suggestions and advice and especially to smokenoob and willxfmr for helping make this happen. This is one of the great strengths of our little club!Last edited by CaptainMike; March 22, 2022, 08:59 AM.

I realize I'm late to the show .... but for anyone else thinking about this .... two significant thoughts in my mind are the SNS travel kettle and the Hasty-Bake Ranger. Two different ends of the spectrum, obviously.
the SNS travel kettle looks to be perfect for small, easy cooks on the road. The Ranger will do anything that the bigger HB's do, but is portable enough for RV'ing.
My two cents worth

I might have to reconsider the SnS travel kettle. It's not a lot more than the JJ and I would be supporting Dave. That HB is quite a ride!!! A bit more than two cents, but it would sure look nice sitting at a campsite.

CaptainMike you'd be the talk of the campsite with a Ranger! And you ought to be able to do 2 racks of ribs on it
